During the winter, a flannel shirt will save your life. Well, it’s saved mine at least. Maybe not literally, but cozying up with a flannel. As we head into the last few days before fashion week, I’ve been working a lot, and kind of tired, so that pretty much means jeggings every day. Yeah, they may be 2009 style, but I still love to wear them, as they’re super comfortable on those days you feel like your want to slum it up.

But slumming it in New York City is never an option! Throw on a moto jacket and a pair of high heel booties, with a statement necklace, and you go from practical to chic. Well, as chic as I can get these days.

The IFB Conference Sponsor, BaubleBar sent over something for me to wear next week..I was so excited, I wore it today to snazz up my outfit. Those who are going to the conference will be getting a surprise!

OH! Over the weekend, I scored a Givenchy Pandora bag in nude at Intermix! It was half off, then 50% off that! Can you believe it! I’ve never owned a designer bag, and this is my first. Love. It’s the perfect bag to last through spring. Heck, maybe even the year.

There is nothing more casual than t-shirt and jeans. Ok, sweatpants. Those are more casual… anything more casual than that, and we’re talking pajamas. Over the years I’ve become a denim lover, and with all the beautiful dresses at the Luisa Via Roma store, I was actually quite interested in the Balmain Jeans. I mean come on, $1000 jeans. They’re Balmain so they must be amazing? Well, that and this Alexander McQueen jacket that caught my eye. My favorite color to wear often ends up being olive green and this jacket looked like a cross between a blazer, motorcycle jacket and military fatigues. What a mix! To be honest though I would have to say that the Balmain jeans were great with their distressing and the way it was constructed to wear over time, there was support in the stitching and the denim was very soft. I wasn’t so impressed with the fit, expecting for $1000 it would make me look like a supermodel, and well the fit didn’t compare to some of the more mainstream denim brands, I did like the distressing  and I don’t normally like distressing.

The Alexander McQueen jacket however did fit amazing, and it’s structure made me feel confident, edgy yet sophisticated. It was the perfect jacket, and paired with the scull clutch I felt casual yet very much dressed up. I hate to start of a post with an apology… To be honest, the break was never intended on being so long. First it was Christmas, then I got terribly sick, now the IFB Conference is coming together along with a short trip to Florence for Luisa Via Roma’s Firenze4ever. Though I was at the Savoy hotel most the time nursing my cold. I did get a chance to rifle through the Luisa Via Roma inventory to create a series of looks. It was amazing to have all those clothes at your fingertips! The first of the three looks, I found this MSGM cotton lace dress that could really work in both winter and spring. Then I tried on the Giambatisata Valli leopard jacket, which instantly reminded me of 1960′s swing coats and boxy jackets. It had the perfect amount of volume to compliment a body-con dress. Looking for shoes, I completed the look with Valentino studded pumps. Oh My God. The studs are perfect, both in form and in quality, they’re very solid. And the heel is thin but perfectly balanced. For heels they are so comfortable, and the edgiest classic shoe I’ve ever seen.

I had one day when I was well enough to wander around… Florence, is quite simply the most amazingly charming city I’ve ever been to. The architecture, the cobble stone streets, the statues (like this lion about to take a bite out of David’s head! Gotta love perspective!)

Anyway, what a start to the year.

I always hated the tomboy/girly girl archetypes, as I’ve always gone between the two, even as an adult. It’s great both ways. Last week I was feeling very girly, this week, I’m feeling more tomboyish wearing pants and button up, menswear inspired color palettes, and tweed galore. I’ve even been eyeing the menswear stores like Steven Allan and Dunderdon thinking about how I would dress, the shops are quiet, well-curated and have a distinctive experience. Then again, menswear is going through a resurgence, and I’m certainly keeping a coveted eye on it.

Anyway, lately it’s been about integrating more menswear inspired looks to my regular wardrobe routine, it’s a lot of fun (and comfortable) especially when a few feminine pieces are woven in. That makes it a bit less costumey.. and more real.

These days, I’ve been living in pants, jeans, even yes, sweatshirts. It seems strange because I used to be so much into girly dresses. Looking into my closet, I have all these beautiful dresses that really don’t get enough wear during the chilly winter months. So today, I pulled out my favorite Cacharel silk floral dress with, and just layered it with a… yes, a wool BLAZER, tights and some HeatTech from Uniqlo. It’s perfect for a brisk Friday, to look both feminine, professional and cozy.

Oh, and I’m going to see the Nutcracker tonight after work! It’s been a life long dream of mine to see the NYC Ballet’s Nutcracker. It helps to have a dress that can go from day to night!

If you’re curvy up top blazers can be a horror story. Unfortunately, I adore blazers. I love the way they look on people, I love the idea of wearing them, however, finding the perfect blazer that doesn’t look boxy or adds a good optical ten pounds is a challenge. In fact, I hadn’t gotten a new blazer in very long time, and that’s not due to lack of desire. Finding a good fit took me well over a year!

Over the weekend, I stopped by Uniqlo to “help my husband shop” noticed the blazer section, and gave it a shot. This one particular blazer works because it has narrow shoulders, the collar is high and it the buttons are high and it subtly tapers out. With a few diagonal pocket to make the eyes go where they need to it really makes for the perfect blazer. Now I’m addicted, and wearing all the time! Of course, it’s nice to have such a mild start to December, that way it’s possible to wear this around town.

I’m back! Well, physically anyway… why is it that it’s always so hard to get into the swing of things AFTER a vacation? Shouldn’t you be all rested up and raring to go? Ah, the wonders of the world. Aside from the shock of going from the tropics to albeit mild wintery days, I’m feeling like wearing a lot of greys and getting into the festive spirit. One of my favorite things to wear these days is a good pair of high waisted denim. It holds everything in, and well it gives me a nice girlish figure. Local boutique and denim maker, Court Shop, specializes in high waisted denim, and I was tickled pink when they gave me a  pair. These dark grey jeans are perfect for pairing with a bright chunky sweater , have enough stretch to lounge around in, and sturdy enough to wear on chilly days. I’d day my perfect pair of jeans, and right now one of my favorites.

Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday. Come on, you hang out, eat as much as you want… and you hang out. Maybe even get to watch the annual National Dog Show. Which pup will you root for this year?

While I’m heading out to Hawaii to visit my Dad and Grandad for the holiday, wearing the custom cozy sweaters and sweatpants aren’t going to be an option (though I’m gladly trading them for a swimsuit!). So I’m doing the fall festivities while here in New York, where all the holidays seem like they’re on steroids. Thanksgiving colors, cozy sweaters pops of yellow and feathers is the theme for today’s outfit. Sporting a vintage pheasant feather hat (often referred to as my pimp hat) with a slouchy sweater and animal print maxi skirt. Obsessed with booties, I’ve paired them with mustard colored socks for the added “pop of color”. It’s certainly getting me in the mood…

Did you ever see Snakes on a Plane? It was as good as you would expect. Not very, but funny to watch. Anyway.. I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately. Can’t explain why, but I’ve been trying to dress myself out of it. Hence the second outfit post and it’s only Wednesday!

Over the weekend, I attempted do to some retail therapy, and ended up falling in love with a dress that reminded me of a dress I already had. During the summer I was obsessed with snake prints, this Zara dress which is basically a snake print muumuu, is the most comfortable thing on earth.  Just by adding a pair of tights a killer pair of black ankle boots and a trench coat and you’re ready to take over the world. Mondays… they’re tough. No matter how you cut it, I’m always slow on Monday morning. Ironically, that’s when it’s probably the best to have the MOST amount of energy! Anyway, when you got the Monday blues, sometimes it’s just as well to fake it ’til you make it.

I’ve been lusting over the Free People off the shoulder sweater for ages. Nothing seems more right these days than a bright red sweater to snuggle up to. However, I spotted a pile of wool red sweaters (the Free People one is acrylic) at H&M of all places for half the price. Now it’s not as snuggly granted, but I did like the fit enough and the price was right… so I snagged it. I have to say that wearing a bit of red really does get the spirits up. And it’s almost just in time for the holiday season (though I like to wait until AFTER Thanksgiving to start getting all Christmasy).

Last week, Jene de Spain dropped off this beautiful necklace. We had met in the summer, and she asked me about what I would like to do if I could make jewelry. I told her the story about my mother, how she is Native American and was adopted by a white family. About 15 years ago, her birth sisters found her and we’ve been getting to know each other since, and becoming a family again. I thought it would be cool do do something about that story, so she made this necklace. I thought it was really beautiful, and I really love wearing it, it’s so easy and light weight, and goes with anything.

Of course red shoes to make my feet happy!
