Since American Rag was having a sale, and it’s in my neighborhood, I stopped in, and found these Repetto mini gladiators… they are a bit unusual, but the leather was so nice and they felt so nice on my feet, they were marked down to $35, so I had to get them.

Upon getting home, I read about Repetto, it’s a Parisian company that started out making ballet shoes, using those production techniques and materials on wearable shoes is probably why these sandals felt so heavenly. I found some others on Shoefly and a pair of light grey ones on La Garconne.

And Sweden. The first book, from Christina & Sara of Mori & Mimosa is Stockholm’s Ateliers a Japanese book that peaks into the studios and workshops of Stockholm’s creative scene. I really liked it because not only is a cool studio tour, but it’s giving me a lot of ideas of how to organize my work/live space. I wish I could read Japanese, but I’m holding out for the discovery of the babelfish, thank you very much.
Next off is a gift from my friend Jim Hill, who surprised me actually, but it’s really thoughtful. Fresh Fruits by Shoichi Aoiki, documents the Harajuku phenomenon between 1998 and 2002, or rather it’s decline. I forget that before street fashion blogs we pretty much had to rely on books like this or travel to find out what people are wearing. I still find this book so interesting, and if I need my fix of what’s on today, I can always go to Apparel Web.
Either way, I’m delighted to have these books on my shelf. :)

It’s one of the few times a year I can wear a cocktail dress and people will be happy to see it! So naturally, I’m excited about the prospect, and was thinking of wearing a vintage 80’s prom dress, but I couldn’t find one that really spoke to me. So I found this dress at Loehman’s, and it suprisingly looks really amazing on, but I will certainly need to accessorize it. Hmmmm…. any ideas? This is what I like about dressing up, finding a foundation item and build an outfit out of it. Ahh… the sound of wheels turning in my head!

I look in my closet, and most of it, is a collection of bits and pieces from thrift shoppes, consignment places, H&M, and Loehmans. I really don’t spend that much money on one piece, because I love the act of gathering (aka, shopping). So for fashion week, I want to represent and support local designers, by wearing an indie designed piece. I really love Naik Fur, the process and form is something that really speaks to me. So I checked out her shoppe on Smashing Darling, and found this beautiful jersey knit top. It’s like a piece of sculpture. Here’s the description:
white manipulated jersey knit top. experiment with elastic. designed with ties to be styled into a wrap. which ever way you please.
I think the reason why I bought it, was because I could imagine several different outfits with it, and ways to layer it. with a tight long sleeve t-shirt underneath, with a pencil skirt, with shorts… a leather mini… whatever. Clothing that inspires, is probably the best clothing one can acquire.

And you know I’ve been thinking about boots for some time now… After looking at Net-A-Porter, seeing the Chloe Boots made me wish I was loaded. Since I’m not, I found these Report Valerie boots in brown for on Zappos.com $107. They got excellent reviews, so I figure, hey, I’m looking for autumn boots anyway….

Been feeling a bit headachey and queasy, so today, I stayed home from work and slept. I left the house to pick up some movies and the gravitational pull of the thrift shoppe pulled me in. (I guess I’m never too sick to shop) I did find a faux fur coat, with puffed sleeves. it reminded me of the Marni fur coat paired with a bright patterned dress for AW07. It was $25, so I figured even if fall is still some months away, I better buy the jacket or I’ll regret it….

It’s really not a place one can go unsupervised. Everytime I go alone, for laundry detergent, I end up in a panic attack because my cart is full of things ‘I actually need’ and I’m about to drop three digits. So needless to say, I try not to go to Target very often.

I haven’t been in a long time, like a year or so, I missed the all those designer lines I’ve already forgotten about… and saw the Libertine for Target line and realized this:

Celebrity designers aren’t my thing. The clothing is just not very well made, and it kind of feels like I’m being tricked somehow. Like the reason why I want ‘designer’ clothing is for it’s originality and quality. And this is just a fancy name that might as well have come from Forever 21 or Old Navy. I saw a Libertine jacket I kind of liked, but, meh…

What I ended up falling in love with was a pair of $6 crochet slippers with cherries on them. They are just the normal Target brand, and my cats like them too. But they pretty much like anything made of yarn.

Last night on my way home, I stopped in my local thrift shoppe, Out of the Closet, and picked up a few items on the cheap… one of them being a striped tie. I immediately wanted to play dress up, like a sexed up Annie Hall or something…

Since beginning my new blog The Poste Office, I’ve been looking at men’s clothing in a different light. I really love the idea of mixing stripes and colors, and learning a whole new logic to dressing. I also realized, I had no idea how to tie a tie, but I just remembered seeing it done on TV or the movies or someplace, so I just guessed. It’s really strange how wearing a tie and a vest can change the way you feel, but that’s exactly what it did for me. I don’t know why exactly, perhaps the way a pair of super high heels changes, or red lipstick changes the way you feel. There is a lot of emotional power in attire. Even if it’s for play.

I’m tickled pink (literally!) only a week ago, Mahret, from F&Art posted about these Susan Bijl shopping bags… completely Dutch in design sensibility, I just fell in love instantly, but they aren’t available in the US… so Mahret & Kate from Bourgeois Pig sent one over to me. It’s great to have a stylish utilitarian bag… so much cooler than the “I’m not a plastic bag” Besides, it matches my lipstick…
