<p>Did you wait until the very, very, very last minute to decide to get dressed for Halloween? Great! I do that all the time. Whatever you do, don&#8217;t cut holes in your sheets and be a ghost, sheets are expensive! Well for some of you getting ready for Halloween right as we speak, I have the NEVER FAIL costume for you. Here is one that is just a spin off of my <strong><a href="../2009/10/31/2009/10/01/2008/10/28/halloween-in-my-closet-part-4-the-60s-housewife/" target="_blank">60’s Housewife</a></strong> costume&#8230;all you need is a little black dress, pearls, sunglasses, a takeaway coffee cup and paper bag. Bonus points if you have opera gloves and a tiara. Here is the last minute segment of <a href="../category/halloween/"> <strong><span style="font-size: large;">Halloween in My Closet Series</span></strong></a> &#8230;</p>
<h1><strong>Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany&#8217;s</strong></h1>
<p><object style="width: 320px; height: 265px;" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="320" height="265" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/urQVzgEO_w8&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" /><param name="align" value="left" /><embed style="width: 320px; height: 265px;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="320" height="265" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/urQVzgEO_w8&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" align="left"></embed></object>When I asked you what you wanted to see&#8230; <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://www.sofarrarsogood.blogspot.com/">Hoopy Chick</a> suggested a 1960&#8217;s starlet, and where I could be a generic starlet, I decided to go with one of the few icons with my coloring (they all seem to be blond!!) Besides I was probably looking for another excuse to put my hair up in a beehive! Strangely enough, I have never ever done an Audrey costume, and I resisted watching Breakfast at Tiffany&#8217;s until about five years ago. Am I the only person who thinks Holly Golightly is massively desperate and sad? Actually, that makes me love the movie even more. If it were just a soppy movie with a beautiful Audrey, I would probably hate the movie. Kind of like  how I love Martha Stewart ever since she went to prison (and I&#8217;m just waiting for her to come out of the closet&#8230;then she&#8217;ll be my hero!)</p>
<p>However, before I digress into a whole slew of things that are supposed to be merely fluff but have secret dark side to them&#8230; the Audrey costume is probably one of those which you can pull off without much effort. I must be feeling the paper bags here, because it&#8217;s the second time it&#8217;s appeared as a prop, only there&#8217;s no croissant in it&#8230;</p>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/bat2.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-10877" title="bat2" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/bat2-682x1024.jpg" alt="bat2" width="682" height="1024" /></a>If you&#8217;re still looking for costumes, don&#8217;t try to put something together at the costume shop&#8230; I have a bunch of costumes you can do with things you probably already own!</p>

<p>How can you have Halloween without a scary costumes? Yesterday, we had a <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2009/10/29/halloween-in-my-closet-wholesome-schoolgirl/">cutesy wholesome costume</a>, but every now and then I&#8217;ll do a cooky &#8217;scary&#8217; costume, like the Bride of Frankenstein, or a witch.  For the second installation of my <a href="../category/halloween/"> <strong><span style="font-size: large;">Halloween in My Closet Series</span></strong></a> this costume idea has been in my closet for a while, and I just had to get it out to you! So even though no one this year asked for Beetlejuice, I&#8217;m going to go with it&#8230;.</p>
<h1><strong>Ms. Beetlejuice</strong></h1>
<p><object style="width: 320px; height: 265px;" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="320" height="265" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="play" value="false" /><param name="loop" value="false" /><param name="salign" value="l" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jv0Cr9Gitj4&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" /><param name="align" value="left" /><embed style="width: 320px; height: 265px;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="320" height="265" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jv0Cr9Gitj4&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" align="left" salign="l" loop="false" play="false"></embed></object><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094721/"><strong>Beetlejuice</strong></a> was a great movie, but where I fell in love with this story was in it&#8217;s cartoon series. Every afternoon when I came home from school&#8230;I was already in High School, and either I&#8217;m a late bloomer, or this has a bit more &#8217;sophisticated&#8217; appeal. I totally related to the creepy anti-culture that poked fun at everything that I was raised to look up to. I loved it. Plus it was loaded with campy humor:</p>
<p><span style="font-size: x-large;">q: Why don&#8217;t ghosts like like the rain?<br />
a: Because it dampens their spirits!</span></p>
<p>For this costume, I simply pulled out everything that had vertical stripes, a black and white striped blouse, striped trousers pushed up like knickerbockers, green and black striped tights, even my shoes. I pulled a belt from a dress to make my tie, and black gloves, well for no particular reason than to make it more costumey. Beetlejuice has gloves, so I do too!</p>
<p>For the makeup, I didn&#8217;t have any white face paint on hand, so I used black and white eyeshadow to whiten my face and blacken my eyes, and I used black eyeliner on my eyes and for lipstick don&#8217;t forget to sharpen your eyeliner A LOT between using eyes and mouth. My hair is too long to just have down and shaggy, so I wore a pony on the very top of my head and pulled the pony over my face. You can see my tutorial on <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2009/03/17/easy-80s-hair/">how to do that here</a>.</p>
<p>This costume isn&#8217;t exactly Beetlejuice, but I just pulled elements, and a lot of <a href="http://www.retrochick.co.uk/2009/10/29/tim-burtons-halloween-fashion-inspiration/">Tim Burton </a>references, specifically Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands to make it my own. But that&#8217;s the fun of Halloween!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/ms.beetlejuice.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-10864" title="ms.beetlejuice" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/ms.beetlejuice.jpg" alt="ms.beetlejuice" width="600" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Costume:</strong> Blouse and trousers, thrifted • Shoes, Vintage from Belle Epoque, San Francisco • Gloves gift from mother in law • Tie is a belt from another dress.</p>

<p><span style="font-size: large;">Halloween is only days away,</span> yet putting together a costume at the very last minute has never, ever been a deterrent for doing something great. Here is the first of my <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2007/10/28/halloween-heroes/">3rd </a>annual<a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/category/halloween/"> <strong><span style="font-size: large;">Halloween in My Closet Series</span></strong></a> &#8230; this time around, <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2009/10/01/submit-your-ideas-for-halloween-in-my-closet/">I asked you what you wanted to see</a>, and my job is to rise to the challenge!</p>
<h1><strong>&#8216;Wholesome&#8217; School Girl</strong></h1>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Audrey_Horne_seated_in_desk.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-10819" title="Audrey_Horne_seated_in_desk" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Audrey_Horne_seated_in_desk-225x300.jpg" alt="Audrey_Horne_seated_in_desk" width="225" height="300" /></a>In the submissions post, a lot of you suggested school related-teen costumes, a 1950&#8217;s Majorette from <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://bymaryjane.com/">mary jane</a>, Claudia from The Babysitters Club &amp; Lila Fowler from Sweet Valley High from <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://thefashionplanner.blogspot.com/">Midnight Cowgirl,</a> and a schoolgirl from <a rel="external nofollow" href="http://www.theeyeline.ca/"><span style="font-size: large;">Eyeliah.</span></a> Now, many of you would think that it&#8217;s a good idea to be a slutty school girl&#8230; but I think that&#8217;s for actual schoolgirls, and kind of unnerving for someone my age to try to attempt, not that there is anything wrong with <em>being</em> slutty (whatever that means) but <em>looking</em> slutty? That&#8217;s where I draw the line. <img src='http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>I&#8217;ve decided to go the more wholesome route, because personally, I feel that that&#8217;s even more of a costume than any of the sinister ones out there. Luckily I found this vintage letterman cardigan in a thrift store for about $5 which pulls the costume together. A pleated skirt with a button down shirt are also essential, and it helps if one of those items is plaid. I&#8217;ve also got a pair of knee high socks with<a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2009/10/26/red-vintage-shoes/"> Mary Janes</a>, and I just love them, and they match, so maybe the little red pumps add a little edge, but it also depends on your overall manner. As a brunette with a sneaky smile I probably come off more of an Audrey from Twin Peaks type, who isn&#8217;t wholesome at all.</p>
<p>Well, there goes the &#8216;wholesome.&#8217;</p>
<p>It&#8217;s important with costumes to have props, even though they may get lost at whatever event you&#8217;re going to, here I have just a plain brown bag and a random book on our bookshelf.<br />
<a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/IMG_0255.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-10813" title="IMG_0255" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/IMG_0255.jpg" alt="IMG_0255" width="750" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/IMG_0264.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-10814" title="IMG_0264" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/IMG_0264-1024x768.jpg" alt="IMG_0264" width="750" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/IMG_0276.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-10815" title="IMG_0276" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/IMG_0276.jpg" alt="IMG_0276" width="750" height="579" /></a><br />
<strong>Costume:</strong>Letterman Cardigan, thrifted • Blouse, <a href="http://francisnewyork.com/">Francis</a> • Skirt, Vince • Wool socks, H&amp;M • Shoes, <a href="http://shop.marketpublique.com/">Market Publique</a></p>

<p><span style="font-size: x-large;">Halloween is by far my FAVORITE holiday.</span> Since childhood, it&#8217;s been that way, the candy, the dressing up, the candy. I used to go all out and buy a ton of stuff to make elaborate costumes, but one year in a rush, Rocky and I made our own awesome costumes in 30 minutes using what I already had in my closet.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2103/1795786697_a3423e014c.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2103/1795786697_a3423e014c.jpg" border="0" alt="halloween costume the coveted jennine rocky pink super heroes" /></a><em><span style="font-size: x-small;">Picture was taken by <a href="http://sanfrancisco.going.com/event-178587?type=album">Barak @ going.com</a>.</span></em></p>
<p>Last year I embarked on a challenge&#8230; <span style="font-size: large;">how many costumes can I put together using what I already own?</span><br />
It resulted in the <span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/category/halloween/">Halloween in My Closet</a></span> series, where from your suggestions and votes, I created SEVEN costumes, a <a href="../2008/10/31/2008/10/24/2008/10/22/halloween-in-my-closet-part-1-ahoy-matey/"><strong>Sailor</strong></a>, <a href="../2008/10/31/2008/10/23/halloween-in-my-closet-part-2-can-can-girl/"><strong>Can-Can Girl</strong></a>, <a href="../2008/10/24/halloween-in-my-closet-part-3-the-ringleader/" target="_blank"><strong>Circus Ringleader</strong></a>, <strong><a href="../2008/10/28/halloween-in-my-closet-part-4-the-60s-housewife/" target="_blank">60’s Housewife</a>, </strong><strong><a href="../2008/10/29/halloween-in-my-closet-part-5-natasha-fatale/" target="_blank">Natasha from Bullwinkle &amp; Friends</a>, </strong><a href="../2008/10/30/halloween-in-my-closet-part-6-cat-lady/" target="_self"><strong>Cat Lady</strong></a>, and a <strong><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/31/halloween-in-my-closet-part-7-retro-flight-attendant/">Retro Flight Attendant</a></strong>.</p>
<p>So this year, I&#8217;m going to amp up the challenge&#8230; instead of giving you a list of things to choose from, I&#8217;m going to let you throw out ANY IDEA in your mind you would like to see, and I&#8217;m going to put the costume together and show  you how I did it.</p>
<p><span style="font-size: x-large;"><strong>What Halloween costumes do you want to see?</strong></span><br />

<p><strong><span style="font-size: 150%; color: #660099;">Well, today&#8217;s the big day! Happy Halloween!</span></strong> It was close, Beetlejuice almost won with 4 requests by <strong> <a href="http://stores.ebay.com/VIOLETVILLE-VINTAGE" target="_blank">Violetville</a>, Cecile, </strong><cite><span class="commentauthor"><strong><a rel="external nofollow" href="http://semi-permanent.blogspot.com/">Noël</a></strong>, </span></cite><cite><span class="commentauthor">Lisa Kiddo</span></cite><strong></strong>, and <a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/" target="_blank">Amber</a>. But in the end, Retro Flight attendant won out with 5 (Heather, Lisa Kiddo, Aidan, Sonja, and <a href="http://samanthasplendor.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Samantha</strong></a>). As far as the other requests are concerned, if you wanted to be one of them, and you need help, I&#8217;ll do my best to answer them in the comments section.</p>
<p>Today is Part 7 in my<a href="../category/halloween/" target="_blank"><strong> Halloween series</strong></a>, of costumes found in my closet. So far, I’ve been a <a href="../2008/10/24/2008/10/22/halloween-in-my-closet-part-1-ahoy-matey/" target="_blank"><strong>sailor</strong></a>, a <a href="../2008/10/23/halloween-in-my-closet-part-2-can-can-girl/"><strong>can-can girl</strong></a>, a <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/24/halloween-in-my-closet-part-3-the-ringleader/" target="_blank"><strong>circus ringleader</strong></a>, and <strong><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/28/halloween-in-my-closet-part-4-the-60s-housewife/" target="_blank">a 60&#8217;s housewife</a></strong> ,<a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/29/halloween-in-my-closet-part-5-natasha-fatale/" target="_blank"><strong> Natasha Fatale</strong></a>, <strong><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/30/halloween-in-my-closet-part-6-cat-lady/" target="_blank">Cat Woman</a></strong> and today Retro Flight Attendant&#8230; all pf these costume made mostly of the the clothes I already own.</p>
<h2>The Golden Age of Flight</h2>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/retroflightattenant.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3182" title="retroflightattenant" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/retroflightattenant.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="375" /></a></p>
<p>Wow, the days before terrorism, when flying was more expensive than driving, optimism&#8230; I don&#8217;t know about you, but then you talk about the early days of commercial flight, you think about the flight attendants&#8230; their outrageous uniforms&#8230; as opposed to today, when I think about flying I think about how to get away with storing liquids in my luggage. <img src='http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>There are a lot of sites out there like <a href="http://uniformfreak.com/index2a.html" target="_blank"><strong>Uniform Freak</strong></a> who has just about every airline known to man. And Dark Roasted Blend posted some of the best <a href="http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2007/02/glamour-of-flight.html" target="_blank"><strong>flight attendant</strong></a> photos on the internet.</p>
<p><strong>Here are the essentials for this costume</strong>: Basically, a hat, gloves, a neck scarf, a go-go dress, or shift dress, any uniform looking dress, vest, etc, knee high boots. You don&#8217;t to be exact&#8230; I took a lot of creative liberties with this one, like I&#8217;ll be doing something about this slip, it kept peeping out! Sorry!</p>
<h2>The Result</h2>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7938.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3187" title="img_7938" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7938.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7945.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3185" title="img_7945" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7945.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a></p>
<h2>Additional Flight Attendant tips&#8230;.</h2>
<p><strong>Point a lot. </strong>Flight attendants tend to point a lot, they point at the exits, they point at the aisle, they point at the bathrooms. They point at your trays while they are telling you to put them up.</p>
<p><strong>Smile</strong>. Fake smiles are even better.</p>
<p><strong>Hair &amp; Makeup&#8230;</strong> Same with all my 60&#8217;s inspired costumes, I just went heavy on the liquid eyeliner, and used blue eyeshadow &#8230; and red lips. And of course I did the beehive.. dude, twice in one week. Maybe I&#8217;ll be the next Amy Winehouse, only without the crack addiction.</p>
<blockquote><p>Have fun&#8230; just be sure not to eat candy from strangers.</p></blockquote>
<p>So that&#8217;s it! <strong>Thank you so much for participating&#8230; </strong>I hope at the least you were entertained with this series, and at the most the series was able to inspire you to do something fun and festive tonight!</p>

<p><strong><span style="font-size: 150%; color: #660099;">Even though I relate much more to the crazy cat lady than cat woman&#8230; doing up the cat costume is a lot easier than I thought.<br />

<p>I love cats&#8230; every day I visit <a href="http://www.cuteoverload.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Cute Overload</strong></a> and <a href="http://icanhascheezburger.com/" target="_blank"><strong>I Can Has Cheezburger?</strong></a>, and when that&#8217;s not enough, I&#8217;ll look through <a href="http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=kittens&amp;s=int" target="_blank"><strong>Flickr</strong></a>. I will comment on any post with a cat in it. As much as I love cats, I don&#8217;t think of them as sexy creatures, more like the fluffballs who are obsessed with cuddling on the keyboard. So here&#8217;s what a real cat looks like:<br />
<a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/cats.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3163" title="cats" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/cats.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="197" /></a><br />

<p>Today is Part 6 in my<a href="../category/halloween/" target="_blank"><strong> Halloween series</strong></a>, of costumes found in my closet. So far, I’ve been a <a href="../2008/10/24/2008/10/22/halloween-in-my-closet-part-1-ahoy-matey/" target="_blank"><strong>sailor</strong></a>, a <a href="../2008/10/23/halloween-in-my-closet-part-2-can-can-girl/"><strong>can-can girl</strong></a>, a <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/24/halloween-in-my-closet-part-3-the-ringleader/" target="_blank"><strong>circus ringleader</strong></a>, and <strong><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/28/halloween-in-my-closet-part-4-the-60s-housewife/" target="_blank">a 60&#8217;s housewife</a></strong> ,<a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/29/halloween-in-my-closet-part-5-natasha-fatale/" target="_blank"><strong> Natasha Fatale</strong></a>, and today a Cat Woman&#8230; all with little or no additional cost. From now until Halloween, I’ll post a costume made mostly of the the clothes I already own. Of course I’ll need accessories, but while we still have time (until tomorrow!) I’ll only post accessories you’ll actually be able to acquire before Halloween.</p>
<h2>Cat Ears are Essential</h2>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7851.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3164" title="img_7851" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7851.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="434" /></a></p>
<p><strong>It&#8217;s totally possible to make cat ears out of shoulder pads</strong>. Yes&#8230; <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/06/25/coveted-hats/" target="_blank"><strong>I&#8217;ve done things with shoulder pads before</strong></a>, and yeah, I wonder if it&#8217;s possible to make a post out of the uses of shoulder pads&#8230; Ok before we digress. I just rolled the shoulder pad to an cat ear shape, and made a few stitches to keep it in place. Then I just simply used bobby pins to attach the ears, and WELLA&#8230; cat ears!</p>
<p><strong>Here are the essentials for this costume</strong>: You can wear anything black or leopard print and form fitting. Cats are cute, Cat Woman is sexy. I basically used a variation of the Can-Can Girl outfit, the sequin tube top, and the choker becomes a collar in this context. I might of worn a skirt, but that was too obvious, so instead I wore knickerbockers, and heels.</p>
<h2>The Result</h2>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7894.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3162" title="img_7894" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7894.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7893.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3161" title="img_7893" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7893.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a></p>
<h2>Additional Cat Woman tips&#8230;.</h2>
<p><strong>Accessories.. </strong>I know a lot of black cats with white paws, and they act like they know their white paws are cute. So I just wore white gloves, and yeah, they&#8217;re cute.</p>
<p><strong>The Makeup&#8230;</strong> I just went heavy on the liquid eyeliner, and used black eyeshadow &#8230; and dark lips with a black gloss to go darker. For whiskers, I didn&#8217;t like the look of lines on my face (like I need more) so I just drew in follicles. So much easier.</p>
<p><strong>Props..</strong>. I have a belt that I tucked into my knickerbockers that made a tail. I&#8217;m apparently sitting on it in these photos&#8230; sorry.</p>
<p>So now we&#8217;re coming down to the final days before Halloween&#8230; I can only post a ONE more so please let me know if there is any one you have a burning desire to see!</p>

<p><strong><span style="font-size: 150%; color: #660099;">One of my all-time favorite cartoon villains was Natasha Fatale.<br />
</span></strong></p>
<p>She was sexy, funny, foolish and had a wickedly cool accent. Part of me wanted to be She-Ra, but the other part, the brunette part related more to Natasha Fatale. The spy in 60&#8217;s cartoons Rocky and his friends, and the Bullwinkle show. She was the smarter assistant to fellow spy Boris who were always trying to get Bullwinkle. For those of you who may not remember her, or didn&#8217;t grow up with the Bullwinkle, I think people born in the 80&#8217;s might be too young to be affected, the Bullwinkle show was a fun and quirky cartoon, but it really didn&#8217;t have the staying power as Bugs Bunny.</p>
<p>Today, is Part 5 in my<a href="../category/halloween/" target="_blank"><strong> Halloween series</strong></a>, of costumes found in my closet. So far, I’ve been a <a href="../2008/10/24/2008/10/22/halloween-in-my-closet-part-1-ahoy-matey/" target="_blank"><strong>sailor</strong></a>, a <a href="../2008/10/23/halloween-in-my-closet-part-2-can-can-girl/"><strong>can-can girl</strong></a>, a <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/24/halloween-in-my-closet-part-3-the-ringleader/" target="_blank"><strong>circus ringleader</strong></a>, and  <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/28/halloween-in-my-closet-part-4-the-60s-housewife/" target="_blank">a 60&#8217;s housewife</a> and today Natasha Fatale, all with little or no additional cost. From now until Halloween, I’ll post a costume made mostly of the the clothes I already own. Of course I’ll need accessories, but while we still have time (3 days) I’ll only post accessories you’ll actually be able to acquire before Halloween. Towards the big day, I’ll work entirely with my own pre-existing wardrobe.</p>
<h2>Fatale Essentials</h2>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/boris_natasha_fearless-1.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-3136 alignleft" title="boris_natasha_fearless-1" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/boris_natasha_fearless-1.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a>It&#8217;s kind of hard to be a cartoon&#8230; especially a vintage cartoon. You may have to rely a bit on gestures and accents, and to play the character a bit.  I saw the interpretation with Rene Russo, and I must say, she&#8217;s gorgeous, but I like the tube dress better. Cartoons tend to have a very simple wardrobe, so I don&#8217;t&#8217; have much going on here..</p>
<p><strong>Here are the essentials for this costume</strong>: A purple tube dress. If you&#8217;re near an American Apparel store,  you can get a purple tube dress though online you can only get it in the <a href="http://store.americanapparel.net/rsa8342.html" target="_blank"><strong>bandeau style</strong></a>, which can easily go into strapless. I know in the image here she&#8217;s wearing spaghetti straps, but sometimes she doesn&#8217;t wear straps. Her shoes and lipstick changes a lot, sometimes she wears purple shoes, or black, lipstick sometimes red sometimes purple, sometimes black. I decided to try to be more monochromatic, because that&#8217;s more cartoonish.</p>
<h2>The Result</h2>
<p>Here is my deviant look&#8230; although, it may be less deviant than when I was trying to look wholesome.</p>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7840.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3137" title="img_7840" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7840.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7842.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3138" title="img_7842" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7842.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a></p>
<h2>Additional Natasha tips&#8230;.</h2>
<p><strong>The hair..</strong>Since I already have short bangs and shoulder length hair, i decided to just leave my hair natural. Though If I were to really do this, I&#8217;d straighten the top half, and curl the bottom half. Since I don&#8217;t have black hair, a wig might be an option.</p>
<p><strong>The Makeup&#8230;</strong> I just went heavy on the liquid eyeliner, and used purple eyeshadow &#8230; and dark lips with a black gloss to go darker. I also applied baby powder to my skin to be a bit more pale. As I don&#8217;t have dark skin, nor is it fair either, so I tried to lighten it, as Natasha is very fair.</p>
<p><strong>Props..</strong>. Here is where I would suggest getting a male partner to go on in on you with this&#8230; I could use Rocky, but he&#8217;s like a foot taller than me and thin. Not like short and stout <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Badenov" target="_blank"><strong>Boris</strong></a>. All he would need is a black hat and a black trench, and you could even drawn on a scraggly mustache. Put on your accents and it&#8217;s a complete costume!</p>
<p>So now we&#8217;re coming down to the final days before Halloween&#8230; I can only post a TWO more so please let me know if there is any one you have a burning desire to see!</p>

<p>First off, I&#8217;d like to say I&#8217;m sorry for missing the past few days, I&#8217;ll make them up&#8230; we&#8217;ve just been having internet problems, so we missed yesterday. Go figure, just when I say I&#8217;ll so something, the internet will betray me.</p>
<p>Today, is Part 4 in my<a href="../category/halloween/" target="_blank"><strong> Halloween series</strong></a>, of costumes found in my closet. So far, I’ve been a <a href="../2008/10/24/2008/10/22/halloween-in-my-closet-part-1-ahoy-matey/" target="_blank"><strong>sailor</strong></a>, a <a href="../2008/10/23/halloween-in-my-closet-part-2-can-can-girl/"><strong>can-can girl</strong></a>, a <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/24/halloween-in-my-closet-part-3-the-ringleader/" target="_blank"><strong>circus ringleader</strong></a>, and today a 60&#8217;s housewife all with little or no additional cost. From now until Halloween, I’ll post a costume made mostly of the the clothes I already own. Of course I’ll need accessories, but while we still have time (4 days) I’ll only post accessories you’ll actually be able to acquire before Halloween. Towards the big day, I’ll work entirely with my own pre-existing wardrobe.</p>
<h2>Housewife Essentials</h2>
<blockquote><p>My grandmother was the kind of woman who would scrub the toilet in pearls and high heels, and her hair was always perfect.</p></blockquote>
<p>The 60&#8217;s are such an interesting time&#8230; for a lot of reasons, first we have the hippies, counter culture, riots, assassinations, etc. But the reality is the only adults I knew at that time were my gradparents.. my parents were just too young, and though they grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, or more correctly Silicon Valley, they really didn&#8217;t experience the hippies that we tend to associate with the 60&#8217;s, I mean, my mom was 11 during the summer of love. My grandparents though, did the nuclear family thing. My father&#8217;s mother did a great job of preserving the values from this era, so most of my influence was from her. My grandmother was the kind of woman who would scrub the toilet in pearls and high heels, and her hair was always perfect. Though she had a short &#8216;modern&#8217; haircut during this time, I&#8217;m going to switch my influenecs with the hair to Amy Winehouse and various drag queens.</p>
<p><strong>Here are the essentials for this costume</strong>: A shift dress, can be found in any wardrobe. Low heeled pumps&#8230; sensible, yet sophisticated. A string of pearls, an apron. A martini glass (my grandmother was big into that stuff) and a cigarette.</p>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7779.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3110" title="img_7779" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7779.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" /></a></p>
<p><a href="../wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7702.jpg"><br />
</a></p>
<h2>The Result</h2>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7808.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3112" title="img_7808" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7808.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7800.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3111" title="img_7800" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7800.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a></p>
<h2>Additional Housewife tips&#8230;.</h2>
<p><strong>The hair&#8230;</strong>60&#8217;s hair is always very stylized&#8230; and it&#8217;s not easy to do unless you watch a few tutorials, <a href="http://superkawaiimama.blogspot.com/2008/09/flowers-and-beehives-how-to-do-amy.html" target="_blank"><strong>Super Kawaii Mama</strong></a> has a great tutorial on doing an Amy Winehouse Beehive. Which I took inspriation from, and my own beehive is not as neat&#8230; so sorry, no tutorial here.</p>
<p><strong>The Makeup&#8230;</strong> I just went heavy on the liquid eyeliner, and used green eyeshadow (because I have brown eyes)&#8230; and red lips, mostly because I&#8217;ve been seeing it on madmen, though I would imagine a 60&#8217;s housewife would be more apt to reach for coral. Check here for more inspiration on <a href="http://www.fiftiesweb.com/fashion/make-up.htm" target="_blank"><strong>60&#8217;s makeup.. it&#8217;s more versatile than you think.</strong></a></p>
<p>Props&#8230; I went with an apron.. a martini glass and a cigarette because that&#8217;s what I imagine the 60&#8217;s to be like, my other grandmother might have been a teetoatler as I can&#8217;t remember her drinking at all.. but I do remember her with dishwashing gloves, and she was cleaning a lot. Well, both grandmothers seemed to be cleaning a lot&#8230; which is probably why my mom doesn&#8217;t like to clean at all. Cleaning supplies might be good props to playr around with, maybe a bottle of Windex (filled with water) a feather duster&#8230; any of that will be fun.</p>
<p>I have a lot of ideas of what I can do for Halloween, and I can only post a few of them, and please let me know if there is any one you might want to see, or if you have any suggestions… please leave a comment:</p>

<p><strong><span style="font-size: 150%; color: #660099;">Step right up! Ladies and Gentlemen! Kids of aaaalllll ages! It&#8217;s the one&#8230; the only&#8230;.<br />
</span></strong></p>
<p>Ringleader in my closet.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not sure why, but with all the circus jobs you can have, I&#8217;ve always been most fascinated by the Ringleader&#8230; He&#8217;s always trying to look classy, but never quite makes it, a showman without a real show, a fraud, a loner. Maybe I just like the tophat and the whip. Who knows?</p>
<p>This is Part 3 in my<a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/category/halloween/" target="_blank"><strong> Halloween series</strong></a>, of costumes found in my closet. So far, I&#8217;ve been a <a href="../2008/10/22/halloween-in-my-closet-part-1-ahoy-matey/" target="_blank"><strong>sailor</strong></a>, a <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/23/halloween-in-my-closet-part-2-can-can-girl/"><strong>can-can girl</strong></a>, and today a circus ringleader all with little or no additional cost. Every day I’ll post a costume made mostly of the the clothes I already own. Of course I’ll need accessories, but while we still have time (8 days) I’ll only post accessories you’ll actually be able to acquire before Halloween. Towards the big day, I’ll work entirely with my own pre-existing wardrobe.</p>
<h2>Ringleader Essentials</h2>
<p>Below are the base essentials of any ringleader attire&#8230; most of which many are basics we all have in our wardrobe. <strong>Knee high riding boots</strong>&#8230; I have a pair of vertical stripe <strong>trousers</strong>, a button up <strong>shirt</strong> (I borrowed one from rocky) a <strong>blazer</strong>&#8230; bonus points if you have a <strong>tailcoat</strong>&#8230;. which I don&#8217;t have (and am sad about this hole in my wardrobe). In the picture, I have a tie, but in research I found a <strong>BOW tie</strong> works better for this costume, so I borrowed one from Alex, Rocky&#8217;s brother. And of course, <strong>white gloves</strong> are essential&#8230; because as a ringleader, you&#8217;ll be using your hands a lot. Since I don&#8217;t own a whip&#8230; I used this leather strap, a dog leash or leather belt might work fine. I just rolled it so it looks like a whip. <strong>Remember with costumes, gestures and imagination can go a long way.</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7702.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3052" title="img_7702" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7702.jpg" alt="" width="750" /></a></p>
<h2>The Result</h2>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/ringleader3.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3050" title="ringleader3" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/ringleader3.jpg" alt="" width="230" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/ringleader4.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3049" title="ringleader4" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/ringleader4.jpg" alt="" width="230" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/ringleader1.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3051" title="ringleader1" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/ringleader1.jpg" alt="" width="230" /></a></p>
<h2>About that Tophat&#8230;</h2>
<p>Apologies for the Lee Harvey Oswald-eque cut and paste tophat. I don&#8217;t own one myself, and it&#8217;s essential to any ringleader costume. Tophats can be found anywhere, joke shops, magician shops, costume shops, party supply stores, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Adult-Magicians-Black-Felt-Top/dp/B000ONEGAS/ref=pd_bbs_6?ie=UTF8&amp;s=apparel&amp;qid=1224844733&amp;sr=8-6" target="_blank"><strong>Amazon</strong></a>, so you can get yours in time for Halloween if you start now. Or you can find out about those <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/10/24/hello-mlady-samantha-cole/" target="_blank"><strong>Samantha Cole</strong></a> top hats, as they are darling.</p>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/il_430xn42123123.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-3060" title="il_430xn42123123" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/il_430xn42123123.jpg" alt="" width="150" /></a><strong>The Mustache&#8230;</strong> I just drew it on using a black eyeliner. it&#8217;s a little more difficult than I thought it would be, and the eyeliner tends to smudge which is good for smokey eyes&#8230; bad for mustaches&#8230; so if you own the Handle Bar Mustache <strong><a href="http://www.tattydevine.com/boutique/product_info.php?cPath=18&amp;products_id=264" target="_blank">Tatty Devine</a></strong> necklace .. you may be off the hook&#8230; or you can get a <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=16477130" target="_blank"><strong>temporary tattoo for $3.50</strong></a> on Etsy. Just hope it doesn&#8217;t have staying power&#8230; not something you&#8217;d want to keep unless you&#8217;re going to participate in <a href="http://stylesalvage.blogspot.com/2008/10/mo-money-mo-research.html" target="_blank"><strong>mo&#8217;vembe</strong></a>r. Or now that I think of it&#8230; a pen might last through the night. If you&#8217;re going to do that, i would suggest practicing, because my first &#8217;stache was really crooked.</p>
<p>I have a lot of ideas of what I can do for Halloween, and I can only post a few of them, and please let me know if there is any one you might want to see, or if you have any suggestions… please leave a comment:</p>

After Part 1 of Halloween in My Closet&#8230; thanks to requests to see a can-can girl from <a href="http://www.kitesinsummer.com/log/" target="_blank"><strong>Kate</strong></a> and UND I decided to with this for Part 2.</p>
<p>If you look to the left, you&#8217;ll see me as a can-can girl circa 2004. I borrowed a striped evening gown from a friend and wore a corset over it. Underneath I wore the biggest red petticoat&#8230; and between the squeezing for the corset and the layers of the petticoat, even at night in the autumn I was boiling hot.. .and the next day I was in pain&#8230; goes to show, if you&#8217;re going to do corsets, go custom, ask <a href="http://www.mischiefmydear.com/dramatispersonae/" target="_blank"><strong>Ashe Mischief</strong></a>, she seems to know a lot about corsetry.</p>
<p>Here is the the second part of my Halloween series&#8230; yesterday I was a sailor&#8230; every day I&#8217;ll post a costume made mostly of the the clothes I already own. Of course I&#8217;ll need accessories, but while we still have time (9 days) I&#8217;ll only post accessories you&#8217;ll actually be able to acquire before Halloween. Towards the big day, I&#8217;ll work entirely with my own pre-existing wardrobe.</p>
<h2>Can-Can Girl Essentials</h2>
<p>Below are the base essentials I found in my closet&#8230; to be a can-can girl, you&#8217;ll need a tube top, here I have a sequin one, two skirts one for the top, a second one to give volume and look like a petticoat-luckily I had a lace skirt that works perfectly. Gloves&#8230; all I have right now are leather gloves and vintage tea gloves, but opera lenght gloves will work even better. Lace or fishnet tights. A choker&#8230; I made one out of black bias tape, and sewed it on with a single stitch&#8230; but some of you may have more substantial chokers.</p>
<h2><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7667.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3031" title="img_7667" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7667.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7666.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3029" title="img_7666" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7666.jpg" alt="" width="350" /></a></h2>
<h2>The Result</h2>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7686.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3033" title="img_7686" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7686.jpg" alt="" width="230" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_76851.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3032" title="img_76851" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_76851.jpg" alt="" width="230" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7693.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3034" title="img_7693" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_7693.jpg" alt="" width="230" /></a></p>
<p><strong>If I had no time&#8230; this would be my end result, </strong> some improvements would be getting a pair of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Opera-Length-Gloves-Colors-Available/dp/B000300RDC?tag=particculturf-20" target="_blank"><strong>opera length gloves</strong></a>, or <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_gallery_1&amp;listing_id=16510135" target="_blank"><strong>feather fascinator</strong></a>&#8230; like <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_gallery_20&amp;listing_id=16498947" target="_blank">this</a>, <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_gallery_18&amp;listing_id=16499556" target="_blank">this</a>, <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_gallery_21&amp;listing_id=16429761" target="_blank">this</a>, or <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_gallery_9&amp;listing_id=16336896" target="_blank">this</a>.</p>
<p>I put my hair up in a bouffant, which can also be handy for other costumes revolving around the 60&#8217;s&#8230; liquid eyeliner is handy for giving lovely cat eyes, and a beauty mark. I used lipstick to make more exaggerated blusher and for red lips.</p>
<p>Since I have a lot of ideas of what I can do for Halloween, and I can only post a few of them, and please let me know if there is anyone you might want to see, or if you have any suggestions&#8230; please leave a comment:</p>
