<p><span style="font-size: 150%; color: #660099;"><strong>If one&#8217;s good, why not go for two or more?</strong></span> That&#8217;s been my motto, pretty much my whole life&#8230; and when it comes to getting dressed, I&#8217;ve been finding myself reaching for multiple belts. Kind of like an eclectic corset or a patched up wide belt&#8230; wearing a few belts can add a whole new realm of possibilities for the belts you might already have. Here, I&#8217;ve combined an old studded belt that looks kind of butch on it&#8217;s own with a few other belts that came with some vintage pieces I&#8217;ve picked up. Each belt on on it&#8217;s own doesn&#8217;t say much, but collectively they make a statement. I guess this principle applies to pretty much everything in life.<br />

As a native Californian, the age of the city the old churches and antique stores.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ll ever get over <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2007/08/08/lampshades-critical-mass/"><strong>neck ruffles</strong></a>, even these medieval church sculptures inspire&#8230;</p>

<h2>Bone to pick</h2>
<p>The antique jeweler <a href="http://www.mux.de/Antiquitaeten-Fuchs"><strong>Horst Fuchs</strong></a> on Westenriederstrasse stopped me in my tracks&#8230; of course the grotesque fascination with <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/05/13/birds-of-a-feather/">taxidermy</a> and <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/01/22/momento-mori/">momento mori</a> sparked a few ideas of what one could do with these antique pewter charms and old coins.</p>
<p><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/img_6445.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2415" title="horst fuchs bone jewelry" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/img_6445.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="333" /></a><a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/img_6447.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-2416" title="img_6447" src="http://the-coveted.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/img_6447.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="333" /></a><br />
Now I&#8217;m off to do some more wandering.</p>

SwanDiamondRose is one of those designers I noticed very early on in my blogging venture.</span> Maybe two months in, I <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2007/04/13/diamond/" target="_blank"><strong>posted about her dresses</strong></a>, and she kindly replied &#8216;thank you&#8217;. I know it&#8217;s really a small thing, but to me it was huge, it was just enough encourage a small blogger posting endlessly into the abyss&#8230;</p>
<p>And luckily, we keep in touch&#8230; she&#8217;s become a lovely friend, and I was so happy to find in my mail box yesterday a <a href="http://swandiamondrose.com/swanclothing-rose-quilted-louche-xl-progress-shot" target="_blank"><strong>brown rose quilted louche</strong></a> made especially for me! The note inside &#8220;I don&#8217;t know why, but I thought you might like brown&#8221; oh yes&#8230; well, it&#8217;s probably because it fits in with my monochromatic coloring, and I have lots of brown clothes. The bag is luscious in real life, nice texture in the sturdy fabric&#8230; a sturdy braided strap that I just love to hang on to, and the brass rings are perfect, not to mention the fact that it fits just about everything I could possibly carry.</p>

<p>I found these beautiful lot of vintage tea gloves at <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5299563" target="_blank"><strong>Dapple Design</strong></a> and instantly knew I had to have them. What I&#8217;m going to do with these, I&#8217;m not really sure yet&#8230; perhaps I&#8217;ll have to have a tea party?</p>

In college, I was captivated by Mike Davis&#8217;s <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FCity-Quartz-Excavating-Future-Angeles%2Fdp%2F0679738061%3Ftag%3Dparticculturf-20&amp;tag=thecov-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325" target="_blank">City of Quartz</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Furl%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps%26field-keywords%3DJames%2BEllroy%26x%3D0%26y%3D0&amp;tag=thecov-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325" target="_blank"><strong>James Ellroy</strong></a>&#8217;s noir novels, they paint such a rich landscape of a Southern California I always thought to be culturally bankrupt (I say this with love).</p>
<p><strong>Welcome to California, Just Add Water&#8230;</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FChinatown-Special-Collectors-Jack-Nicholson%2Fdp%2FB000UAE7RW%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Ddvd%26qid%3D1219327036%26sr%3D8-1&amp;tag=thecov-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325" target="_blank"><strong>Chinatown</strong></a> is by far one of my most favorite films. Loosely based on the irrigation controversies in 1930&#8217;s Los Angeles, the multi layered plot twists and turns while retaining cinematic perfection. Starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway, it&#8217;s a neo-noir film directed by Roman Polanski. The other night we were watching it, and I just couldn&#8217;t help but to notice Evelyn Mullwray&#8217;s (Faye Dunaway&#8217;s) wardrobe. Unlike some other modern stars, her costume is fabulous, but holds some semblance of continuity, like the brown envelope clutch (I must get one), the pearls and red lipstick. Each piece is perfectly put together. I don&#8217;t want to ruin the movie, because if you haven&#8217;t seen it, please do&#8230; it&#8217;s excellent.</p>

<p>In the film of course, Faye Dunaway has gorgeous hair. I&#8217;m assuming they have hairstylists on the set making sure she looks perfect in every shot. For us non-starlettes getting a <a href="http://www.lphouse.com/1930s.htm" target="_blank"><strong>1930&#8217;s doo</strong></a> can be more tricky. If you&#8217;re in LA, <a href="http://www.revampvintage.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Revamp</strong></a> does these wonderful vintage emersion classes where they go over beauty tips from yesteryear. If you can&#8217;t get to LA, you there are lots of great tutorials on <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ0z1NzIx1o" target="_blank"><strong>YouTube</strong></a>.</p>
<h3>The Clutch</h3>
<p>Here are a few <strong><a href="http://shop.ebay.com/items/_W0QQ_nkwZvintageQ20brownQ20clutchQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ" target="_blank">vintage brown clutches</a></strong> I found on eBay&#8230; It&#8217;s amazing she could fit everything in that clutch&#8230; but as you may know how <a href="http://the-coveted.com/blog/2008/02/28/freedom-from-the-clutches-of-the-bag/" target="_blank"><strong>I feel about big bags</strong></a>.</p>
