One place I love to look is Flickr’s Wardrobe_Remix… there are some remixers that are truly worth following like, Nemrešpobjećodnedjel je (Ramaida) from Maribor, Slovenia. Ok, ok, I seem to be on an Eastern European kick today… but really, I’ve had my eye on her style for months, most of her clothes are thrifted, and she has a great way of mixing colors and layering. I myself tend to get too matchy-matchy, but she really does a great job of thinking out of the box with her attire.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly NYC
I have been coveting thier cigarette pants for a while, and Jayne owns a pair in lilac… they do look really great on her, much better than what I anticipated from the online pics (which are great, but I’m cynical). For fall… they have acid wash and pinstripe… ooh I bet they are lovely.

Minnie Wilde, San Francisco
This boutique is owned and operated by local designers Terri Olson and Ann D’Apice. Their clothes are playful and really well-made. Every stylish woman in SF seems to be familiar with this shop!

Painted Bird, San Francisco
This buy/sell/trade shop is probably one of the best places to find cool and inexpensive clothing. I know from experience that it’s really difficult to stop by without picking something up.

i heart, NYC
I am trusting that this is the shop to go to in New York City… from all the press, and the extensive designer list was full of gems… like British designer, Emma Cook. I clicked on every single link on the site. Next time I go to New York, I’m so going.

Re-Mix Vintage Shoes, Los Angeles
I thought this was just an online shop… apparently I was underestimating this Los Angeles based shoe maker. Holy moly… Jayne tells me that the boutique is full of every color, of vintage remake shoe you can imagine. I have heard of these shoes before, my neighbor Patti has a couple of pairs, and the ones pictured above, are really well made and comfy. Jayne’s actually wearing her pair in the photo above.

One thing I always admire is when the focal point is an accessory. (then is it still an accessory???) I love Janyes usage of belts, she has tons of them… she just got this new belt and is quite smitten with it, and rightfullly so. It reminds me of some Celtic goddess with gold arm bands. Ok, so my vision isn’t necessarily historically accurate, but then again, most my historical knowledge comes from Xena, warrior princess.

She didn’t grow up with the kind of plastic toys and tv some of us had as children… she played dress up with kids in the neighborhood would do parades. Her dad was an antiques dealer, and she started collected vintage hats as a teen, but then sold them all to go to beauty school and move to San Francisco. Vintage hunting and deal hunting remained a theme in her wardrobe, like many of us, it’s mostly a mixture between vintage and small designer… clothes with a feminine 70’s and feel to them. The dress she’s wearing is SF based Minnie Wilde.

Jayne touched upon this in our conversation by telling me recently she had her colors done by a “Color Me Beautiful” consultant. “It’s changed everything” she said she wouldn’t had believed it if she didn’t see what the consultant did for her best friend. “She had these scarves and draped them across her face, some of the colors just made my friend’s face come alive and she look radiant.”

Colour Me Beautiful is a color system that started in the 80’s, do you remember if you were a Summer or a Winter? I think I’m an Autumn… but I could just be using my fake hair color. Well, the system has evolved since then and apparently it works. Jayne had her color pallet made up to help decide which colors to go with, it’s completely changed the way she shops. It’s a bit easier on your complexion than trying to make yourself look good in nu rave colors. Oh dear. Her consultant gave her a list of colors to match her complexion and coloring, like beige, creme, peach, warm pink, grey, navy, coral, and told her to avoid black. Which I think is great because lately I’ve been noticing people using black as a ’safe’ color, when for most of us, it doesn’t really work. So if you’re having some trouble editing your pallet or choosing what colors to experiment with, perhaps talking to a color consultant could be handy. Or maybe a color savvy friend will do.

So this week, I’m going to show you snippets of Jayne’s wardrobe and let you in on some of her tips and secrets of how she does it. You know to tell the truth, I had always thought of Stevie as the woman my mom really liked a lot. But looking at Stevie’s style, it’s impressive how big of an impact her look had on fashion. For her, sexiness came from the way clothes moves, the way they felt…

“I am a fabric sensualist,” she said. “I love fabrics. Cashmere, velvet, silk chiffon. . . . If it feels good, it doesn’t have to be particularly beautiful. I buy clothes sometimes just because I like the way they feel.”

Style-wise she’s famous for her long flowing chiffon or velvet dresses, the wind blowing in her hair. Her look is very ethereal. One of her greatest inspirations was Janis Joplin, who wore silk blouses and feathers. The young Stevie would make trips up to San Francisco to shop at Velvet Underground where Grace Slick and Janis Joplin got their clothes. I don’t think that shop is still around, oh dear, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who shamelessly copies my fashion heroes.

Rae is a good friend of mine, every time I see her, she’s decked out looking fabulous. Many times I wonder where she gets her items, they are so unique, and so her… Rae’s from Detroit, and she says the sugary images of California really inspire her, that her style is ‘where sand meets sidewalk’, a cross between Mission hipster and California surfer. Below she’s wearing a vintage mini dress, and a clutch she customized with a spray paint stencil and a pin. How clever!
This is one of Rae’s signature outfits… She’s had this Detroit Tiger’s shirt for ages, it’s her favorite! Her bag is a customized clutch by latocatenderoni. I also really love the tiger print wedges from delia’s.
I love the bright t-shirt with the tiger, and the shorts, it’s such a hip outfit! Love the Michael Kors pumps.

Rae’s favorite store is Minnie Wilde, where they make this white trench. It’s super cute!
