Today’s Attire: Pimp My Style

by jennine on December 15, 2010

vintage pheasant hat

Everyone needs a hat with a feather in it. It should be a requirement. When I first came across this vintage pheasant feather hat, I fell in love immediately, and agonized on whether or not to get it… when would I ever have a chance to wear a hat with giant feathers in it? Don’t only pimps wear feathers in their hats? Oddly enough, after caving and getting the hat, “When wouldn’t I have the chance to wear it?” has been more the question. Since it arrived last Thursday, I have worn it Friday, Saturday, a little bit on Sunday… then again on Tuesday. As of writing this, a hat that costs $35 is not a bad investment. Besides, the hat adds a “look”to no matter what. One could be wearing a muumuu and put on the hat and wella!

A tropical pimp.

Today I’m wearing the hat with a  sheer leopard print blouse thanks to a giftcard from Saks Fifth Avenue. I’ve been meaning to get something cat-print for some time and this fit the bill, the sheer is easy to layer and the print is just right. My favorite thing to layer it with is the popcorn sweater I condemned to the incineration pile for making me look fat, but held onto it for unknown reasons until now.

I’m finally wearing that sheer skirt…some pieces take months before they click. This is one of those.

Shoes I live in. They’re the best. And here are the bangles from Tiffany’s… I definitely need more bangles.

Wearing: Hat: Church of Vintage •  Blouse: Patterson J. Kincaid courtesy of Saks Fifth Avenue • Sweater: Rebecca Taylor • Skirt: American Apparel • Shoes: Aldo • Coat: Vintage •  Rings: Wendy Brandes, Low Luv, Club Monaco • Bracelets: Bangles courtesy of Tiffany & Co., Market Publique, Heirloom gold watch • Necklace: Madewell

great look, love how you’ve worn the hat more than you imagined and that the whole ensemble just “came together.” that happens to me so many times that i’ve learned to buy something if it calls to me. even if it takes a year to get it out… i’m always so happy i have it!

so true, there are a lot of things that live in my closet before they make a debut… i have to learn to get over that fear because practicality shouldn’t be the thing that keeps you from something you love!

Collette Osuna December 15, 2010 at 10:30 am

Helllooooo hat!!! Love the feathered hat….and totally in love with your jewelry too:)
I think a hat is a needed accessory…..that and a scarf, can totally change the look of an entire outfit…..you wear yours well:)

Oh.My.Gosh… You’d better watch out–I might try and snatch that hat if I ever go back to NY! lol. Great find; don’t you just love those vintage pieces that cost so little, yet add so much flair?

I really love the layered looks you’ve been rocking lately. I have a definite hippie side of me, and seeing this outfit pretty much makes me want to go dig out all my super-long skirts, peasant tops and boots. You really pull this look off effortlessly! :)

Love the hat, the feather look is a great one!

Al December 15, 2010 at 1:55 pm

I followed your raves about this hat on twitter so I was very curious on how you would wear it!

It’s perfect!!!

I love your bracelets and the gipsy cardigan, but I think that the edgy touch of the animalier blouse is the cherry on the cake (do you have this saying in english?): it gives everything a glam and modern feel ;-)

I agree with the commenter who said that there was an Annie Hall vibe about your outfit–there’s a relaxed ’70s glamour about the look that’s really appealing, soft and elegant. And that hat!! It sure adds drama to any outfit.
