Cowboys and Angels: A New Haircut

by jennine on May 13, 2010

new hair cut

How is it that everyone has perfect hair, but when you ask them how they do it…they say they hate their hair? Some women love their hair, but part of me thinks they’re making it up. Not that I want to encourage self deprecation, but c’mon. Really?

In January, I got a terrible, soccer mom cut. It was horrible. Some people told me to get a new cut, but it was too short to do anything to it without going into Pixie territory. Not that there is anything wrong with Pixie cuts, but been there, done that. So I waited, and waited. Finally my hair got to the point where I was starting to like it (five months later), but it was also time to go back to the chair.

A friend introduced me to Rory of Cowboys and Angels at a dinner one night, I thought she was really cool, and she told me to come in and she’d fix my hair. I waited with trepidation, it’s always scary when you let your friends cut your hair…it can really ruin things. If things go wrong, imagine the tears and yelling, “I trusted you!” Well, I put that aside and went in, not knowing what to do. At first I thought I’d want my bangs back, but they are so much work, and I spent a lot of time growing them out. I wanted something more geometric, however, my hair is naturally amoeba shaped. So we talked about doing something softer, with layers, and this is what she did. It took a few days to figure out if I really loved it, but I literally don’t have to do ANYTHING except put a tiny bit of styling creme in to tame it a bit.

The layers are a bit edgier than my last cut… I’m trying to have a attitude, though no one will believe it. ;)

So what’s next for my hair?

Thanks to Gheri from Because I’m Addicted for bringing to my attention the hair I want by the end of the summer…it’s the perfect shade of brown and I love the softness of the cut. Not to mention the Chanel Resort collection, is pretty fantastic in it’s own right. If only I could wear shorts like that without being offensive…

We’ll see if that’s possible!

it’s always the whole ‘grass is greener’ thing. I’d love to have your beautiful waves! Lovely cut – I’m always terrified of trying new stylists.

Gorgeous! It looks very chic and effortless.

Is your hair naturally curly? If so, this cut really really works with your hair. I think with hair, we should work with what we have to create the best version that we can.

Deepti May 14, 2010 at 6:24 am

I love your new haircut. I got my hair cut yesterday too. I was bored with my bob, so this time I went with layers. I agree with you about people who have great hair always answer with a ‘really? i hate them’ statement. Being modest is one thing and but this recurring statement irritates me. Come on, I love my hair and I am proud to say that I am. And if someone compliments me I just say a quiet thank you and let it be….

That cut works perfectly with your natural waves which is really tough to pull off! Happy to hear you found someone who can give you a great style, it’s so disheartening to have a bad cut – and to have to pay for it! Beautiful.

You’re friends with Wendy B… I know you have a sassy attitude in there. And I think you look fabulous!

Mousevox Vintage May 16, 2010 at 10:50 am

Pretty, pretty! I actually do like my hair. I used to hate it because it would never be straight enough or curly enough or long enough, but I’ve recently learned to accept what I have and work it to my best potential. Of course, I think it’s natural to always kind of wish for something different, but that doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate what you already have. :)

Love your new haircut; not such a fan of the proposed next step (it reminds me of Grade Nine, and the limp head-suits worn by every single girl who was trying to copy the flawless “flips” on teevee).

Personally, I love my hair. Sure, sometimes I wish it was super thick, or that I could grow it past my shoulderblades – but that aside, I have great, cooperative, versatile, stylable hair, yeah. I have lots of problems with other bits of my body, but absolutely no hate for my hair.

Closet Cravings May 19, 2010 at 4:43 pm

I’m always on a quest for fabu hair. Most of the time, it seems like I want what I don’t or can’t have. When it’s long, I want short. When it’s blonde, I crave dark. I think a woman’s hair is very much like a super hero’s cape or outfit. We need it; it’s part of our identity. And let’s face it, a bad costume (or hair) ruins your style mojo. Does anyone really respect Batman’s sidekick, Robin? Ummm, no.
