Marc by Marc Jacobs Floral Umbrella for Spring

March Springs, April Showers…April has been showering quite a lot in my neck of the woods, and weather reports say it’s not letting up any time soon. Even though temperatures rise, rain does come all year around in some places, like in Germany we had intense summer rains, with thunder and lightning. Sporting  black umbrella in the spring and summer months isn’t just show lack of imagination, it makes a depressing day even more drab.

Back in college, when I lived in London, I always had a Liberty Print umbrella. Man, I carried that thing around with me until it literally disintegrated. It had a beautiful red and white swan and cherry blossom pattern, I wore often with a red mac on rainy days. It got replaced by a etoile print  umbrella that broke a year ago, but I still jimmy the wires around to make it work. Luckily, thanks to Liberty prints hitting the mainstream, US retailers like J Crew and Marc by Marc Jacobs are selling beautiful floral print umbrellas to cheer us up on dreary days.

I picked up this umbrella yesterday, not meaning to, but passing by the Marc Jacobs shop on Maiden lane, there is a rack of umbrellas of all kinds of pretty prints for $18. I stood there for about 20 minutes trying to decide which one to pick, and  finally settled on this orange and pink one. Why orange and pink? I have nothing orange and pink! But the colors just dazzled me so. I haven’t found them online, but many cities have a Marc by Marc Jacobs shop, so hopefully you can stop in if one is near by you.

Another good reason to buy pretty umbrellas for the spring and summer months is for the sunny days. I’ve had a few days out and about in the sun, where it got to harsh and a pretty umbrella helps shield the sun, plus, it kind of makes me feel like a ‘lady.’

I walked past the MJ shop as well yesterday, but somehow didn’t notice these! How pretty. (I did, oddly enough, end up buying a marc jacobs cardigan at bloomingdales…)

I’m finding that they have tons of gorgeous umbrellas in London. Unfortunately, I don’t have a ton of space left in my suitcase to bring things home. Oh the sacrifices I must make!

I have a cute white umbrella with pink and purple butterflies from Bloomies and a big Hello Kitty pink one. I also have a bunch of parasols but that’s a whole other post!

I love this umbrella, from its bright flowers down to its adorable lucite handle. I love those curved handles for umbrellas; they’re just so much more aesthetically pleasing than the straight ones. Plus then I can hook the umbrella onto my purse!

I’m doing a post this week about cute rain gear and dressing for the weather. Hope you’ll stop by!

I love this umbrella, from its bright flowers down to its gorgeous curved lucite handle. I much prefer curved handles to their straight counterparts: they’re more aesthetically pleasing, plus they’re handier since then they can hang off my handbag. Perfect!

I’m doing a post tomorrow about cute rain gear and how to dress for the elements. I hope you’ll stop by!

curved handles are certainly prettier, and they make it easy to do a singing in the rain bit too!

One day I needed an emergency umbrella while visiting the parents. My mom gave me her floral umbrella bc she didn’t want to part with her blue one (parents!). So I’ve had it ever since. Then it rained the other day in the city and bc I am so used to having a black umbrella, I used the floral one while wearing a floral DVF dress.

OMG Jennine the LOOKS I received while walking in Midtown were RIDIC…I never thought I could garner that much unnecessary attention. Holy hell.

ps – you look darn pretty ;-)

that’s so cute of you mum to give you a floral umbrella! my mom doesn’t even own one because she lives in the desert. but it really does make a difference on rainy days when you have something cheery!

Oh man, I can already imagine how much I’m going to be using my umbrella once I move to SF too. I barely use it once or twice a year here in Vegas. There was a really pretty Target umbrella a while back from one of their collaborations, gosh I cant remember the name anymore, but it looked vintage. I keep my polka dotty red and pink H&m umbrella for these special rainy ocassions

So glamourous and ladylike as a parasol! I’ll have to take a gander at those when I am near my local MJ accessories store.

I love your cheery umbrella! I desperately need to get a new one for myself–before rainy season really starts here. Perhaps I’ll opt to get one that is for my use only (meaning: something so girly my husband won’t steal it! lol.). Love your entire outfit too! :)

I was so tempted to buy a pretty pink floral one that I spotted in J. Crew yesterday. I passed it up, and now I can’t find it online. :(

an umbrella is an accessory (although it is very practical) so it makes sense to purchase one with style in mind instead of just one that gets the job done. I love that it would add dazzle to anything you were wearing. so bright and fun, too it brings the May flowers right into the April showers!!

Just this morning I was thinking I should go and buy a pretty colorful umbrella to help me keep the ‘happy spring mood’ on rainy days… After seeing this post, I definitely have to!
The one you chose is so lovely! I’m sure it can brighten up any grey day.
