Dang, it’s beautiful out. The sky is crystal clear, perfect temperature, with a slight breeze. This is what all the fuss about California is about, granted in San Francisco, you can never predict the weather, not such a bad thing, because when it’s like this, it’s really hard not appreciate it.
Yesterday, I made a trip out to the Emeryville to visit Sophia Amoruso of Nasty Gal for a nice lunch and tour around her new warehouse, I’ll post more next week, but during the visit, she gave me this BB Dakota ruched ikat dress. We had been in contact for a few years, and it was really nice to be able to sit down and talk in real life! Anyway, the dress… it’s perfect for my blue bag obsession (also from the East Bay…what is that?) I felt a little ‘exposed’ to really bare the strapless part, in public, during the day… so I layered it with a vintage lace bolero and a black blazer to give it the final touch.
Even though lately, the trends lean toward crazy sky-high sculptural shoes, I’m thinking I’m kind of over it. After a terrifying attempt to wear 5″ platform heels on the hilly streets fearing for my life, and the futility of carrying an extra pair of shoes in my bag (because I rarely put them on), it’s time to give the ultra-high’s a break. Flats are comfortable, but after seeing a few pictures of me in them, they do make a short girl look like a munchkin. All that’s really necessary is two or three inches to dress up without going bonkers. Look here, the Marc Jacobs black pumps, darling and comfortable enough to walk around in.
Maybe it’s just another phase…but are you loving super high heels?

Oh no… these are actually from 2004… maybe 2003? they used to have bobbles on them, but they kept falling off no matter how many times I glued them back on! I live in the Diana Ring!!!
You look stunning! Hope you are having a lovely day. Btw, do you have an email contact? Wanted to ask you a question.

me too… it’s not done enough!
Personally, I think the bolero makes this outfit. As for super high heels, I say everything in moderation!!

Yay it’s the new blue bag! Woooooooot!
love the outfit!
Theoretically, i like super high heels in fashion editorial shoots.. but they are not made for walking. Flats are alright but I’m only about 5’4 and they make me feel even shorter. Either way, I think that you have to change the way you walk when you wear flats or super high heels. I feel major foot/leg strain after going around in them for a day. I’ve decided that a heel of at least 1 1/2 to 3 inches is best (for your feet and sanity). It’s just enough to boost you up but not feel like you are about to topple over while walking. I’d much rather be the confident mid-heeled girl than the anguished high heeled one.
oh yes… i agree.. it’s one thing if you’re at the office all day, a girl can get away with 4″ but walking around town?it’s just too hard to maneuver the streets in super high heels, plus the maintenence…
Never fell into that super high heeled trap. Really, really, really bad for your spine, pelvis, knees and feet. If you walk a lot- forget it. Not a fan of complete flats either- no arch support. Heel of preference- 2.5 -3″ perhaps with a small platform in front.
you always have great shoes!but yeah, i’ve suffered from high heels, but can’t seem to find cute low heels or flats…
I love black and blue, love your shades too! xx

You know…I’m kinda over it. The last couple of pairs I’ve gotten have either been flat or a heel sans platform…and I’m liking it. =D
ooh good to know, you had some amazing heels too!
Stunning! I’ve always loved when cobalt blue and black are artfully coordinated together. Gorgeous dress!

Love the colour combination and the shoes work a treat.
Hey Jenine! You look fab as always. Love the bolero! XO
Those Marc Jacob pumps are gorgeous and I’m loving the black and blue color combo! I always thought San Fran would have more predictable weather than NYC and I was always a bit jealous of California bloggers
guess I was wrong!

Now that you mention it, it kind of irks me that some people who, years ago, thought my fish feet and flower feet were so over the top have spent over a year fascinated with some really big, ugly, “taking a trend too far” shoes!

This is stunning. That is my favorite shade of blue, and I love the lace detailing.
I’m also still loving the haircut. I may have to copy it, next trip to the salon.
Love the dress! Especially the color!

Such a lovely blog. And what a chic outfit. I like the way you make blue work on you. Superb.
I’m a heel gal. Paris cobblestones and wooden bridges truly are a challenge.

To answer your question, yah, with a huge platform! Haha.
I love seeing this post. I do sometimes get ideas from outfit posts, and this gives me an extra way to wear a similar black sweater I have (under a black blazer) – but I also have it in creme, and colors are harder to match. I’d have to go hunting with sweater in hand to find a matching creme blazer. And I do not have that money. Time? Yes because I love shopping in my free time. Money? Not quite – my wishlist is too large.
