Elle hair trends

There was some talk a while back about the grey hair trend. Did you catch it? I was just wondering about that myself, as for the first time I had to dye my hair to COVER the greys. Holy moly, I feel way too young for that. While it might be cute to show off some wise lookin’ locks when you’re 20, but when you’re 30… it might make you look a quite a bit older, the same thought when I saw reading glasses with chains at Anthropologie. Now those are a few tips for the Old Lady Style flickr pool. This week Elle shows us the top 10 Beauty Faux Pas made on the runways, should they stay or should they go?

Big NO on grey hair for anyone old enough to be naturally grey. Ugh! Never.

haha…it’s kind of like the thing about vintage, if you were old enough to live through the first time it was in fashion, then you run the risk of looking a time warped person rather than someone wearing vintage on purpose!

I love all things Jennine and Sister Wolf…….. & I love love love my gray hair ! At 55 it is the real thing, and my hair is often to the middle of my back if not to my waist……and shall remain so for a few more years I’m sure. I used to dye my hair as a precocious child in elementary school (Mom did so why not me?), and I’ve had all colors, but I truly love my authentic gray hair. Other ladies, please color as you wish !

oh yes, i think if you have nice grey hair, it works, mine doesn’t look so nice, it’s scraggly and not concentrated enough to really make a statement. grey is one of those things that it does look great, but it has to be perfect.

Hahah, let’s leave the grey hair to Tavi and Kate Lanphear, shall we? They’re probably the only ones who can actually pull it off.

tavi does look cute as a grey!

I think we’ll have to leave that one to the fresh-faced youth!

I’ve had to dye my greys out since i was 20, and they’re pesky little blighters, just when you think they’re all gone one pops up right on the crown of your head…Ugh!

omg, and why are they so resistant to color? like it washes out of my hair 10x quicker!

I’ve got a soft spot for people who let their greys show, but that could be because I’ve got a lot of premature natural grey myself. If first started getting them when I was 13 or so, and I’m only 26 now but I have a big ole grey streak in the front of my hair, ala Rogue from X-men. Maybe I’ll start to feel differently as I grow older, who knows, but honestly, I think there are a lot of ladies out there who can pull off grey hair and make it work. I DO think it’s a matter of confidence though… if it’s going to make you self-conscious, then it won’t be a good look for you. YOU have to wear it well to make it work.

rouge looks so cool! if you have the perfect grey streak that really helps, i’d have one, but no, i have wimpy spreckles.

Even on the young, grey hair ages them. I was shocked when I saw it on Tavi because I mistook her for a short, old, woman at first glance. Even though it is wildly popular with some people, I am not liking the way it looks.

I am old enough to have natural greys and have had to cover them since I was 24. I started getting them at 17 very slightly. (Thank you aunt who went totally white at 21!)) The grey does age you and if you have a younger face, like I do for my age since I get mistaken for 26-38 years of age at 38, it just blahs you out to have grey showing.

I am just not feeling this trend.

That runway grey look is terrible. Which of course means that in the real world it can only look worse. I do like a grey stripe like Stacy London’s though.

In my opinion grey hair is only a go when it suits your age (Jamie Lee Curtis) or for young people trying to make a statement (Pixie Geldof, Lady Gaga, Pink).
