Yesterday morning I was out on appointments and Wendy Brandes sent me an email to break the news, ‘Alexander McQueen committed suicide.’ Oh my god. All day I walked around, probably like many of us did upon hearing the news, wondering why he did it, feeling that hole you feel when someone leaves us so suddenly. He was certainly one of the greatest designers of our time and seemed to be getting better and better. Just last season, when I first saw the Armadillo shoes, I literally spit out my coffee and yelled at my monitor ‘HOLY SHIT” in excitement. Not that many designers can do that, and yet, he did it, over and over again.
Alexander McQueen, you are terribly missed.

Yep.
If I had to sum up McQueen in just one phrase, it would be Holy Shit. Repeated a dozen times. When I was in the office today, trying to explain who he was and why he mattered (zomg, past tense :/ ) I used his armadillo shoes as examples of haute couture as art. Sculptures, I said. Think of them as sculptures. It was the only way I could convey to my coworkers the artistry of his designs.

Man oh man, is this affecting me. Chilled to the bone at his sudden absence. He was one of the greats, but even more heart wrenching,he was my generation, and I felt his character come through in his brillant designs. I enjoyed his take on fashion, and his twist on things is irreplacable. I imagine Fashion Week in NYC has a somewhat somber chill about it now. ; (

I was pretty saddened by it yesterday.
Even though I don’t keep up with most collections/seasons, McQueen’s designs were one of the few I always looked forward. He was such an artist and maverick. The whole fashion world is going to miss his creativity…

He and his designs will be missed by many.

It’s always shocking when someone so famous and talented, commit suicide. You’re left wondering why.

He was an artist. I will miss his creativity and theatrical sensibility. Even my non-fashion loving friends were fascinated and inspired by his runway shows and his creations. He will be missed.
so sad…:(

So very sad, a real loss to fashion, such creative talent. My thoughts are with his family.

McQueen was a brilliant working class boy made good – he truly was gifted and will be a dreadful loss to the fashion industry. His creativity was second to none.

Such a tragic loss to the fashion community. He was not only a creative genius with his collections, but his shows were beyond compare.
