Are red clothes in the closet really red?

by jennine on October 16, 2009

red clothes

If I weren’t a color slut, I’d declare red my favorite color. Red has always lured me in it’s sultry ways, I probably have enough red clothes to wear red all week without much worry, yet for some reason, in the name of ‘classing it up’ I’ve forsaken my trusted color. Recently I bought a coat in beige when it was clearly available in red,  where just a few years ago I would  have balked at someone for choosing such a safe color! I totally would!

Today, the clouds look daunting, I don’t want to go outside, everything looks sad and grey. I’m tempted to blend in, but that’s ridiculous. It’s time to pull out the colors to keep from falling into the grey abyss.
redb

Here I’m wearing a thrifted cardigan • legwarmers made from a thrifted sweater • Jean Paul Gaultier cut-out silk tunic, Market Publique (also worn here) • Shoes, Stuart Weitzman •  Red Cuff, Marc Jacobs • Tights H&M • Skirt and accessories, well, the necklace fell apart (on first wear) as I type this, so I’m not going to reveal who it is. Sorry loves.

I love red, but I tend to shy away from it. I need to at least have a red handbag, red shoes and red belt in my closet. I love your red tights – what a nice touch!

Red is also my favourite colour.. but I don’t wear it often as it somehow freaks BF out :)

I’ve moved on from Red to Dandelion Yellow, Pale Pearl Pink and Sapphire Blue at the moment.

I too am a colour slut, because my wardrobe is full of so many colours, it’s hard to tell what I love to wear the most.

(But black isn’t a colour right? Cuz I don’t wear it.)

Oh and that metal bracelet is AWESOME. Want.

Quinn Smith October 16, 2009 at 12:05 pm

Love red! I used to never wear it because I was afraid it would make my face look red. I was wrong about that. I just needed the right red.

❤ wendy.. yes! i did!
❤ pedlyn, this is pretty much true of all colors, you just need to find the right shade.

Sal October 16, 2009 at 2:24 pm

Red has been my favorite color since early childhood, and I remain loyal. But I know what you mean – I have been amassing black and grey items at an alarming rate this season. Something about the neutrals is eclipsing my love for beautiful bright red.

You wear the shade so well, lady. And that tunic is to DIE for!

I seriously love this outfit, Jennine!! Red has always been one of my favorites too. I feel like it goes so well with brown hair and darker complexions. I also really love the idea of making leg-warmers from old sweaters!

as usual, we are on a similar wave. red *is* my favorite color. i still hate brown, beige, etc – i really try, but i can’t make it work for myself!

my co-worker and i both showed up at work in monochrome yesterday – her in navy blue, me in red.

red is one of the only things that gets me through the cold!

and it goes so perfectly with gray :)

Fabulous outfit. I love the red and grey combination – the red cheers up the grey and the grey tones down the red so they work really well together. Love the skirt and the silk tunic is gorgeous. its a pity about the necklace because I really like it. Maybe you can fix it?!

Not For All The Jewels In The Crown!”

Ok, ok, so I don’t deck myself up in le rouge 24/7 BUT Red has been my not so closet fetish since forever and a day. I love it and wear it with a penchant (and passion) especially my red silk cheongsam mini :) love the tunic, Jennine, the cuff and the nails were the perfect accents.

Red’s always been my favorite, too — I’ve been known to divide my laundry loads into lights, darks, bleach load, and reds. (Although purple has been making a lot of appearances the last year or so.) Red is my neutral, red tights are a necessity, and I don’t want to live in a world with no red shoes.
