Are Baggy, Footless Tights In Your Fashion Future?

Post image for Are Baggy, Footless Tights In Your Fashion Future?

Note from Jenine: This is a guest post from Stylehive, we’ll be doing a weekly post exchange. See our post here.

I’m all for most hosiery trends, whether it be two-toned, crazy-patterned, or studded leg wear. And I’ve never been an opponent of “tights as pants,” as long as it’s done tastefully. But I have to admit that I don’t know what to make of Wolford’s Voile leggings/footless tights. Isn’t hosiery supposed to be fitted, not baggy? I have to say that these look like the cheap stockings sold at drugstores and bodegas, which are barely adequate when you’re in a bind and create a very unsexy-looking leg. These leggings, however, aren’t inexpensive, and retail for about $62. They not only look weird (and not in a good eccentric way) and cost too much, but are also impractical. I can’t think of any way to rock these that wouldn’t make the wearer look short and malnourished. Well, I guess if you’re trying to look thinner, these might do the trick, but would you really want to risk having your style license revoked? I didn’t think so. how would you even wear those? as pants? under a skirt/dress? doesn’t that give you the “i’m wearing a dress over pants” look? i don’t get it.

Maybe layred over colored tights?

I’ve seen Miss Bubble wearing sheer loose “pants” layered at one time and they looked nice but I don’t think they were harem-y.

I think these tights are more to be worn as pants. either way. I don’t know what to think about them. I would have to see them worn with something else.

Since my immediate reaction isn’t one of dismay or disgust, but simply a cocked head and a, “huh,” I feel like this is a style that might grow on me. The bagginess looks intentional enough, and if it’s Wolford it’s bound to be quality. How to wear them? No idea …

I imagine I’d covet these relentlessly for the purposes of a photoshoot, but for actual wearability…not so much. Ah, such is life.

Ugh, I bet those would be so irritating. Imagine the hose rubbing back and forth, twisting, etc.

The first thing I thought when I saw the picture was oh my gosh those are adorable! I’m going to get some grocery store tights that are 10 sizes too big to see if I can pull it off. Short dress and heels!

I get kind of a Princess Jazmine vibe from them… not for me, but it could work. I agree with Andrea, though: just buy the Queen-size tights for $5 and cut the feet off.

Yikes, to me these look like saggy hosiery – I’m sorry Wolford made them! The Wolford Flash Leggings I saw that were ruched at the ankels looked good tho (about the same price.

I think they could work and be amazing with the right dress and shoes.. I’m thinking some kind of flowy, sheer layered watercolor dress, maybe knee length.. Not sure what shoes would work but not those.

They remind me of those loose pants that cartoons depict Arabian women wearing, like Princess Jasmine. Almost but not quite.

Maybe they are only meant to be worn as an I Love Jeannie costume?

HOW HILARIOUS …I mean, isn’t everyone trying to get away from baggy tights? funny. But …really, if they’re hot, I’ll wear em!
