These days it’s funny how many fashion ‘designers’ can’t draw, they can’t sketch, they’re not formally trained.. admittedly, I’m totally a pot calling a kettle black, as I can’t write or take photographs, nor have I been formally trained in fashion journalism… so I’m not going to blame them…
However, I do truly enjoy seeing a designers thought process, their rough sketches, all the external inspiration points behind a final collection and how that relates to the creative process. Next week, in San Francisco, Ivana Ristic will be showcasing a special collection in relation to her art. ‘Deconstructing male clothing for a female future’ showcasing the whole process from sketches to paintings to the final garment… Ivana takes the suit and reworks it into abstracted wearable art pices. A sports jacket reworked into a skirt, tuxedo pants twisted into leggings, each with her signature nature inspired silhouettes.
If I were in San Francisco, I’d totally check this out.
