Turn on the Lichting

Today, I’m off to Amsterdam! One of my favorite European cities, I haven’t actually been there since before the Euro… so I’m excited to make my return. After going to Berlin Fashion Week blogging for the Dazed Raw Blog Awards, the lovely people at G-Star asked me to come back and blog about Lichting 2009. Licting is the fashion show/contest of a select group of extraordinary Dutch fashion graduates. Before I divulge too much, I thought I’d share my favorite of the 14 graduates.

Erna Einarsdottir
Born in Iceland, spent her senior year in high school at Carlsbad High (that’s California)… then went on to art school, and graduate of to the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Her collection entitled Helvítis Fokking Fokk is about the protesters of the Iceland economic crisis, ‘I created a wonder woman who serves as Iceland’s new identity; a woman who combines raw emotions with elegance.’ What I like most about it, is the richness of texture of the garments, as the textiles she created herself to evoke the rawness of the Icelandic wonder woman.
