Natural Evolution

by jennine on March 10, 2009

Twisting ivy… the curve of a petal in blossom… these are the forms I see whenever I look at Ivana Ristic’s work. A few years ago, I picked up a pair of shorts by her, and since she didn’t have a website, I emailed her… since she lives in Belgrade, and at the time, I was in San Francisco… it didn’t seem likely that we’d ever meet. But we’ve actually become real life friends… she’s a delightful person with an artistic spirit. When she showed me her latest collection, it’s her best one yet. I thought it to be a big jump from her previous collections, the stark black and the twisting sheer leggings (I drool over) but it’s really a theme in her work, more poetic than straightforward. The collections are along the lines of building a singular body of work, a voice… not so much like many designers you see today which reinvent themselves every season. I really like this kind of progression in fashion, one that takes its time to really evolve. Like nature, it’s constant yet changing.

Ivana’s still working on her site.. so if you’d like more information about her collection email ivy_ristic [at] yahoo.com
