Lace Face

by jennine on January 13, 2009

I’d like to see the day come where you can wear a mask, just because. One day sitting on the train, in the florescent light I nearly scared myself,  for I had puffy eyes… and thought ‘this would be a good day for a mask.’ There could be other times when mask wearing could be appropriate, like in times of mischievous behavior…or…. you know, paties. TotusMel needle tattler (that’s lace maker) makes these gorgeous handmade lace maskes, neck corsets and cuffs. Many pieces are custom made…

You might need to take it off before you enter a bank.

jennine January 13, 2009 at 4:44 am

omg… they wouldn’t even allow you to wear sunglasses at my old bank. the security guard would always ask me to take them off, and i was like ‘dude, this is californiat’ and he’d say ‘no dice’

no wonder they went bankrupt, flippin’ wamu.

Lol @ the bank guard.

The cuffs are pretty cool, especially the red one. The mask would work for a night time ensemble. During the day, I’d fear I’d look like a low-budget superhero, Lace Girl

Love the masks, imagine one with a veil!

Kater January 13, 2009 at 8:26 am

I can’t help but to be reminded of The Princess Bride:

Fezzik: Why are you wearing a mask? Were you burned by acid or something like that?
Man in Black: No, it’s just that they are terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.

Haha! These are gorgeous though, a neck ruff would be fantastic!

I LOVE masks. Once I made myself a whole set of plaster-wrap masks (moulded off my face) with different faces… I think I lost them in a move or something. I forgot about them until now.

These are stunning.

If anyone could wear a lace mask and make it look “ok and chic for daily use”, it would be you J!

Beautiful! I’m totally in favour of wearing masks as a day-to-day attire.. We should really start establishing this! =)

Princess Poochie January 13, 2009 at 2:04 pm

I’ve loved her work for ages. But wish I was able to wear them to work. Maybe no one would bug me for a while then.

Eyeliah January 13, 2009 at 2:35 pm

Ridiculously pretty, You’ve got me wanting to wear a mask too.

Market Publique January 13, 2009 at 3:51 pm

I love it! It kind of reminds me of the mask Serena wore on Gossip Girl for the masked ball…

Pamela Quevedo/TotusMel January 13, 2009 at 4:10 pm

Thanks so much for featuring my work. I wholeheartedly endorse the idea of casual mask wearing & I can’t believe I forgot about that Princess Bride quote!

Beka January 13, 2009 at 4:48 pm

That mask would be an incredible piece to own. I’m already imagining how I would wear this.

I agree with Market Publique: I was also reminded of Serena a la Gossip Girl.

Really quite beautiful and what intricate work! I would love to just throw on a mask before the daily subway commute and see what happens! Great find.

Lovely work.

sarah von January 15, 2009 at 11:13 am

Let’s bring back the mask! Hey, it’s happened for Hammer Pants and Acid Washed jeans, I can’t imagine that masks would be any more difficult than those.

Prêt-à-Porter P January 17, 2009 at 2:42 pm

beautiful pieces. i think the black cuff could easily be translated into real life.
