It’s an Ipso Facto

by jennine on December 30, 2008

Cutting your hair and dying it black always seemed to be the anti-beauty treatment… after all (blonde) Smurfette’s evil sister Sassette had short black hair. I Dream of Jeanie had an evil sister with dark hair… and I don’t know, I could be full of it, but dying my hair black and getting a bowl cut has never been in my mind the crux of “flattering do’s” yet, that’s all I can think about these days… especially after seeing the Ipso Facto spread in Tank Magazine. When I first saw the images, i thougtht it to be another fashion spread, but no, Ipso Facto is a band, and quite a good one at that. Their rather silent-film-arthaus and dirty punk vibe really mix well together, a familiar sound… but not quite. Can I name the band they make me think of? No. But I can think of the dark, dingy, smoky bar where I can imagine hearing them play in.

I love this band, always see them hanging out looking ten times cooler than anyone else in the room..

They make me want to go for a serious chop and dye; curse my bowl-cut repelling chubby cheeks!

I think that cut screams sex appeal, and I think that it would really suit you! DO IT! x

I saw them in the October issue of I-D. They were dressed in black guipur courtesy of Prada and I remember being blown away by their aesthetic.

This is my haircut!

And I love it, do it girl!

You’ve had a bob that’s pretty close to this style, no? You wouldn’t have to dye your hair, it’s so dark anyway!

Hehe, yeah, one of the girls helped me kick the door open to the loo in a pub in Camden where they played… Gosh did I stand there looking stupid, having thought that it was locked somehow… She just burst through, swift kick on the door and voila! Sweet! They are gorgous and fantastic!

You definitely suit this harsh edgy hair… mine is giner and bushy thick and immensely curly and it just would NOT be tamed. Let me live vicariously through your hairstyles ;)

Happy New Year, Ms. Coveted! Hope it’s as amazing as you are :)

WendyB is right, your bob was just a tad longer than this. But after cutting my hair this severe, I have to tell you that if you have any wave at all in your hair, straightening it everyday is a BITCH! I had the sleek, mod bob and I think I’m over it. It’s gorgeous, but the up keep is a pain.

Don’t know this band but already love our style. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve always wanted to do the short black hair with bangs but I think it’s because I wanted to be Snow White. I’m always afraid, with my pasty skin, I’d look like a corpse… so I totally chicken out.
