Hisano Takei started out as a making her jewelry with metal, when she discovered wool… just fell in love with the medium, seeing some similarities to wool and metal. And by using wool, it’s allowed for her to take her ideas about jewelry to create a garment hybrid.
‘Ideas such as jewelry suggesting garment, jewelry taking over the body of the wearer, and jewelry breaking out of the traditional role of adornment are some ideas that enthrall me.’ ~Hisano Takei
I really like these pieces because they do have the sculptural qualities without coming off as too delicate or precious. It actually makes me want to take up felting… if it weren’t crafting klutziness… like my inability to knit a scarf with a straight edge, or sew a straight line. Ah… well, we can dream, can we? Until then, I’ll just stick to blogging and ogling other people’s work.

Glad he switched from metal to felt…
Love all these. The first one is my favorite because it looks like both a scarf and jewelry. And it’s still dramatic (even though not as much as the ones on the bottom!)
Beautiful! Loving the last one.
I wonder how heavy those really are. Does heavy = warmer in that case?
@poochie.. mee too!
@susie, can you imagine if these were metal? holy moly.
@MP…oh yeah, me too, i really want soemthing like the first one.
@miss… oh yeah, can you imagine this with a wiggle dress? you’d be like thumbelina
@cas..hmm i’ve heard that felt isn’t very heavy at all, and as it’s wool.. i’m sure it’s very warm too
Wow what a coincidence..I just met Hisano Takei yesterday at Felt Club. Her work is even more amazing in person.
i would have given my right shoe to go to that felt club event!
My god, these are amazing..
Ooooh, I love these. I can just see me wearing one to a swanky holiday party.
I wish I went into fabric jewelry– would certainly keep costs down
So chic and wintery…
these are great, but your post title is the best.
