James Jean, Rebel Without a Pause

by jennine on May 8, 2008

I love it when it takes a few moments for beauty to sink in. Or a few months in my case. This morning, I was delighted to read Chic Today featuring James Jean, illustrator behind Prada’s SS08 dream-like prints. Although I wasn’t sure if I really liked the printed luxury clothing, reading the interview and seeing Jean’s work changed my mind. His work is magical.

OK here is where the proof of my secret nerdiness comes out. He also does the cover illustrations for the comic book series “Fables”…which is about fairy tale characters (ie. little red riding hood, snow white, big bad wolf, etc.) in the “real” world. I know, super nerdy.

i don’t think that’s nerdy at all (although i cannot be called one to judge)

that’s really cool… i’ve got to take more looks at graphic novels, they are taking over… they really are.

Those are beautiful selections from the website. I’m also a bug fan of his, especially his “Recess” series.
You should check out Esao Andrews. Their style of illustration is similar, though Andrews’ work is a bit darker and more surreal than James Jean’s “dreamlike” illustrations.
