I must say, you've summed up exactly how I feel in terms of bag envy.

Sure, I loved mine when I bought it (a cheapy but nonetheless pretty from the high st..) but with the amount that I insist on carrying about, it's misshapen a little and I'm always grumbling to myself about the pain in my back.

I haven't given up on bags though, just yet. I will be one of those people who uses a bag to polish off their outfit, I will!

It's funny how most of us fancy jeweled clutches, but end up toting big bags five days a week. I found out from painful experience that big bags are practical for me (err for most people for that matter). I can lug around all sorts of stuff from keys, makeup kit, books, moleskine planner, food, water, cellphones, etc. For some time, I experimented fitting work stuff into clutches only to ruin the small bag in a matter of seconds. *sigh*

I've been thinking about that recently too. Its tempting to carry loads of stuff around with you...book, make-up, camera, hairbrush, umbrella, spare shoes etc. Ok sometimes you need these things but most of the time you don't ever use them...I've found when I carry too much stuff with me I get a pain in my back/shoulder so it can't be good for me. For this reason I've been trying to cut down to a bag about the same size as yours whenever I can. it does leave you feeling more free! :)

I wish I could fit everything into a wee clutch! I always look like a bag lady-- with a med. size purse, gym bag and a canvas tote. I bring files to and from work, walk in different shoes, etc. I need to pare it down. I'm not an IT big girl-- I'm just messy and *convinced* I need to be carrying lots of stuff all the time. It's like I'm a horse with saddlebags.

I too have never been an "it" bag person. Right now I'm using a gorgeous vintage lizard small doctor's bag shaped bag. The purses I have tend to be vintage, from Target or a very streamlined classic shape in a great color.

I tend to use Dooney's, mainly because they don't add a million buckles and straps, etc. and don't have an overly branded look to them, especially the Alto style.

My latest bag purchase was the emerald green Medium rounded satchel shown in the picture on this page - http://www.dooney.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=10095

It's a gorgeous color, roomy enough to carry my two phones, wallet, camera, iPod and other random stuff but it won't be out of style ever.
