Girlfriend in a Koma

Host unlimited photos at slide.com for FREE!I had a difficult time deciding on whether or not to post this. On one hand I really like young designer, David Koma’s work a great deal. This is his last season’s work. But in reference to what has been going on this year in fashion, it’s edgy, but not entirely groundbreaking. It left me to ask myself… What, exactly do I want out of fashion? What do I expect?

Really it has nothing to do with Koma’s work, which I find to be very beautiful, like a costume from Flash Gordon, or Metropolis. Fulfilling the fantasy that we do now live in the age of science fiction. I love the idea of dressing up, adorning oneself beyond mere function. To dress for play. It lightens life a bit, it lifts the spirit. This indeed, is why I love fashion.

So, what do I expect? Imagination. In the end, what really captures my eye about Korma’s work is the sense of fantasy and the strong desire to bring the two worlds of reality and fiction. The fact that this collection was for the Saint Martins Degree Show, makes me think that he really took his time in college to experiment. I really hope to hear more from him soon.

  1. The great thing about fashion is that we have the freedom to wear something fantastical and incorporate that into our own life… so in fact, what was considered fantastical/outrageous becomes the norm…
