Tattoo eye mystery

by jennine on September 10, 2007

I love my liquid black eyeliner. For some reason I could never figure out how to use a pencil… for me, it’s always been the liquid. Back in high school I started out with this liquid pen, but it flaked, and I tried various kinds of eyeliners. I was so consistent about the eyeliner, Mr. Snidecor, my art teacher asked my friend if I had tattoos on my eyes. Holy mackerel… Since then I’ve tried other kinds of eye makeup, just so I don’t feel like I’m stuck in a time warp, but nothing has ever replaced this. Kind of like Maria Callas or Audrey Hepburn, the cat eyes are part of their look. This autumn, it’s made a bit of a comeback. Thanks Louis Vuitton… you’re my hero! I’ve been working on this Lignes des Chanel, since 1998 and there’s barely a dent. I know it sounds disgusting to have the same eyeliner compact for 9 years… but it’s the truth, it makes shelling out $65 for it a little less painful (although, back then, I think it was more like $45).

I’m the master and an unquestioned pro in drawing cats eyes lines with liquid eyeliner (I’m a pro with the pencil too, though). I’ve been doing this for years and the best liquid eyeliner pencil is by a Japanese brand I coincidentally found in Tokyo, K-Palette’s Real Lasting Eye Liner because it REALLY lasts, if you want even for more than a day and doesn’t smear and the brush is the best I’ve ever worked with! If you can get your hands on these, maybe in Japantown, then get it! I’ve just ordered three of them from my friends who are just in Japan right now. Oh, and they’re only about 8€, that’s maybe 9-10$?

Wow, liquid eyeliner application is a real skill. I’m an amateur and only just manage to do it with a pencil! x

I’ll recommend Fluidline by Mac…it has the liquid effect but is easier to control IMO. Great story about the “tattoos.”

Liquid eyeliner are the only make up I seem to be able to apply properly, I’m also crap with pencil, i always end up looking like a panda so I just stick to liquid eyeliner.

Does anybody know what kind of eyeliner Amy Winehouse uses?

I think it’s brliiant and it never smears even when she’s dead drunk and wasted.

agree agree, liquid eyeliner was the first bit of make up I started using and if I was going to be stranded on a desert island and had to choose between soap or my eyeliner I know what I’d pick lol. I’ve been using bobbi browns lasting gel liner but I’ve gone thru two pots already in the last year so I’m going to try the chanel one next. Is it pretty much smudge resistant?

Even though I have compound eyes (multi faceted)
the size of garbage can lids I’m sure I’d like eyeliner.

i’ve had the same sort of eyeliner dilemma as well. i thought that i would give liquid a break since i’d been doing it for close to 11 years. but i came crawling back to old faithful in a matter of days.

That picture of Maria callas DOES look like Amy Winehouse…strange.

I use this Estee Lauder liquid liner at the moment. I love it because the liner is seriously so tiny. I used this avon one before that was good at staying on for a long time though.

oooh… yeah, i’m curious too what amy winehouse wears….

yep, my chanel compact works quite well… it’ doens’t smudge or flake. i’ve had it for almost 10 years, it’s 25% used. perhaps i should get a new compact… $6.50/year on eyeliner isn’t bad…

i am/was/shall forevermore be the same about the black line! sometimes i swoop, but usually just a nice straight line since i have long lashes already and just want to pretend it’s the 60s. nice to see others have the same black liquid eyeliner gene.

i’m currently trying to decide if it’s ok to wear false eyelashes to work or if i should only consider then for play. *shrug*

I’m obsessed with Benefit babe cake eyeliner, which I’ve had for at least 5 years and it looks like it has barely been touched. I use their get bent brush for application and always achieve perfect liner, whether I’m going for a thick line or a thin one.

wooo…. eyelashes at work? i’ve been thinking the same thing… particularly since my new bangs tend to obscure my eyes… there are some lashes you can wear that aren’t too much. i wore some falsies to a party, and no one noticed.. they just said my eyes looked great.

I’m so with you on this one! I cannot apply pencil for the life of me, but I’m a veritable whizz at applying liquid liner.

I can’t believe I actually know this. OK, I don’t know it, but I knew how to find it, within seconds. According to the Aug/Sept issue of BUST magazine, Amy Winehouse uses Rimmel liquid eyeliner.

Personally, I never could master liquid eyeliner. And the pencil smears/melts within a few hours and I end up looking like a raccoon by noon. I pretty much gave up on eyeliner alltogether after 35, as the raccoon effect just made me look old and tired. Which I can do just fine with no make-up at all. ;-)
