Colors. Without them, life is just, well, meh. People try to guess what my favorite color is and, there is none. I’m a color slut. In all fairness, I do believe that I fall more in love with color pallets than individual colors. Colors only exist in relation to their environment. Once I had taken a color theory class, based the teachings of Bauhaus artist Josef Albers, changing the properties of a color by changing it’s context, after hours of making two different grey squares look like the same grey square, a person learns that color can’t be trusted. Of all the senses our vision tricks our memory the fastest, being that visual memory is very poor, and the variants of color are infinite.
That all said, I’m really impressed when a an artist, designer, photographer or stylist, is able to use that to their advantage, instead of merely creating color harmony, but intentionally using color to ignite the imagination. This fall I’ve noticed photographs taken by Mert & Marcus, the fashion photography duo that use the same kind of dreamy, beyond real, rich, color palette. With colors that are usually used sparingly (hot pink) and colors that are often overlooked (brown, grey) and brought to life with a sense of vibrancy that, I’m just in love with. I wish I could just capture the feeling of these photographs and set them free in my wardrobe.

LOL, “color slut”, love that! Fab pics, esp the crane photo
Oh my! I’m horribly in love with Mert & Marcus! I especially love their B&W work with Agyness Dean.
…and Hooray for the Josef Albers shout out! (Hehe..Yep, I’m a design geek!)
Oh…and I never got a chance to say Congratulations on the blog re-vamp! It’s beautiful!
…ok, I’m done…for now
Mmmm, exquisite! Yes, I too am a color slut, hehe.
I’m also a big fan of Mert + Marcus.
